hi
im really sorry to hear your situation. As well as claiming IS , so you can start getting some money in you can also claim for a crisis loan, you can do this as soon as you have started the process of claiming IS ( even once you have made a appointment to claim) . To do this just go into the Job centre and ask for the Crisis loan number . Its worth being at home when calling this number but once they have all your details they will contact you back within three hours with a decision. I hope this helps

Secondly - what debts has he left you with? Only he went BR I take it? You will be left with all joint debt - including the mortgage shortfall. Were you aware of that?? At least on IS you can get the court fees waived if you decide to go BR.
I have to go bankrupt regardless due to negative equity, debts of my own and joint debts now personally liable for. His br was petitioned against him, I was waiting for us both to start our fresh new life in rented house and then I was going to do it :-( (so gas etc was in place beforehand).
IS am going to look into now (I know it's 3am but I have not slept in days) thing is I work and earn 10k part time so fingers crossed I get some help towards bankruptcy but is income support not when you are not working??
Do I need to contact the csa if I know he will be reasonable??
So many questions ......
Lastly how much will landlord have to know about the housing benefit?? Will they write to him? How do you explain a complete new set of circumstances. I cant believe he has done this to me. Yet his f***ing mother has had a go at me tonight !!!!!!!!! Really struggling to cope xxI cant change the past, but the future is mine to play with!

Tell his mother to eff off. Its naff all to do with her. You do not have to put up with it.
Sorry - I made the assumption he worked (never assume... I know!) so as you work you will not be entitled to any income support. How many hours do you work? Your tax credits should go up as well as be entitled to working tax credit - which means that you cannot claim a court fee remission based on benefits, but you can on income level (I think).
Housing benefit is still applicable to you - do that anyway. You may have to get the landlord or lettign agent to complete the HB forms too - but its tough luck from their point of view. Circumstances have changed, they were not expected and if they want paying then fill the things out or start evicition after 8 weeks of non-rent being paid (Which then mean the council should help you with housing).

If you go to the jobcentre, you can apply for an emergency crisis loan(can someone confirm this?) I think the first time you claim for it it is up to £500, then up to £1000. I think you have to apply in the morning and it is usually ready in the afternoon. It comes out of your benefits and is interest free.
By law, an award of a Crisis Loan must be to help meet expenses in an emergency or because of a disaster
