Renting with CCJ's?

Options
Just about to get my first CCJ. I am in a DMP and all but one of my creditors have accepted the payment offer.
The other has taken me to court!

Also in the process of separating from the missus, and would probably end up looking to rent.

How bad is it going to be for me with a recent CCJ and a fair few defaults, although they are all a few years old e.g. i haven't run up new debts for the last 5 yrs...just paying off what i owe.

  • If you have a CCJ/default (within 7 years) you’re less likely to get a rental with an agent (fact)

Your best (maybe only) option is to pay the first 6 months up front (cash), then enter into a 2 months opt-out clause (by law in your favour) for the remainder of the 12 month contract

Agents will give YOU priority in these sheet times with 6 months cash up front, think about it, you will not be an 'I’ve been made redundant' threat to the landlord/agency for 6 months

Oh and don’t make an offer on the rental, swallow it for another 2 years (as you’ve already seen out 5 years)

You might find it hard going through one of the popular high street letting agents but asking around and going through a private landlord be a bit better. You might find one that won't do a credit check, in fact I know a fair few of them who don't do credit checks. Good luck.
