Can I claim additional relief for a pension that my compnay contributes towards?

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere - I did a quick search but couldn't find anything.

I am a higher rate taxpayer and have a pension scheme with Standard Life. Each month I pay 5% of my Gross salary into the scheme and my company pays an additional 10%.

I've claimed the additional relief on the 5% but not sure if I can claim on the 10% as well?

I have already returned my tax form but all the advertising about the Jan 31st deadline made me double check my form!

basically no... you can't reclaim tax you haven't paid...

Thanks - makes sense to me.

I can claim on the 5% because it's deducted from my Gross salary but I can't on the 10% because it's added on top of may salary but without any tax being deducted.

The 10% is presumably paid by your employer directly and so he claims this as a part of his costs

Yes, they do pay Std Life direct.

    Hiya

As this is paid from your GROSS salary (before tax is deducted) you should not be declaring this on your tax return as you will then be getting a refund of tax that you never paid in the first place....

Might be worth going through your previous tax returns and amending thos pension payment figures.
