I have been looking at the Yorkshire Building Society's Rates & they seem very good.
Plus your not tied in & with some of there products they offer fee assistance.
When talking to financial advisers they never seem to meantion them plus I must admit I dont hear much about YBS !!!
So my question is
Are they any good ?
Has anybody used them before ?
Your help would be appreciated.
Thanks

As you seem to have found, most ( even whole of market) advisers don't seem to mention them, as broker business to Yorkshire is via a different arm/ different products (called Accord)
If you want a wider research IMO sometimes it pays to either
1. Do extra research yourself
2. deal with someone who will report on the the full marketplace ( not just "whole of market" - ) - suggest this will usually involve a fee ( its called independent advice.. and ofteny you will find commission is rebated, as you pay a fee,- but read their initial disclosure document - so adviser got nothing to lose in recommending a non-paying lender)
- if doing this ask for proof that its been done , I had a client recently who had approached a large brokerage ( commission only) , and was appalled with them when I came up with a much better / more suitable deal with another no paying lender - that larger firm did not mention it ( in fact seemed to ignore one of the main client's requests - but instead offered an exclusive! - imo for exclusive sometimes read sales target ) , even though they advertise- "every lender"
unfortunately it would appear that in general the UK public is not yet ready for fee based service , thus allowing the "commission only / whole of market-ish" situation to continue

yes YBS do have some good rates, have to admit when I have used them ( or more recently sending existing clients back) the service standards have not always been 5* ( my experience- others may differ)Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
Thanks for the advice @ Payless
I have made an appointment to see my local branch this weekend.
Now to get to this stage they seemed to want my life history !!!!!!!!
I did ask them if they were going to do a credit check on me BUT I was told
they would not do this without asking first.
For mortgage advice on there products do these companies really need any more info other than
How much you earn
Value of property
How much you want to borrow
And then if I take up a product with them they can have the rest
or am I being paranoid ?0 -
It varies, in fact some lenders don't give advice, just info on their productsAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0

i've just remortgaged with with ybs with a fee free offset that suited me nicely.
have to say they were helpful and efficient all the way through. staff were pleasent and all enquiries were dealt with in one phone call, only one technical difficulty with online banking took from 5pm to 9am next morning, due to relevent staff gone home, but the call came back to say 'fixed' when they said it would.
oh, and some brochure info wasn't too clear, which led to most of the calls to cs.
overall 8/10Please note, we've had to remove your signature because it was sh*te!0
