I am probably what you would say is a veteran of the auction sites now. I've had some success stories and some less than successful episodes with both comet and currys auctions.

All I would say is - "why was this product exchanged (and thus up for auction) in the first place?" - usually because its broken in some way. Now if this is a scratch - fine - I can quite understand why someone who buys a new product and pays top dollar does not want a scratched one thanks to some careless guy in a warehouse somewhere on the long supply chain. Fair enough.

I had to go through 2 dishwashers which either leaked or didn't actually wash before I got the 3rd which worked perfectly (large dent on the side but obviously once its slotted into your kitchen, you can't see that). The phrase "tested by an engineer" is a bit of a joke on these sites I think. Maybe they just test it with a white stick - "Check! the product is here"

You should only consider using these sites if you have plenty of time to be without a dishwasher, washing machine, TV etc and can be bothered to go through the effort of winning an auction, waiting for delivery, sending it back, finding another auction, winning that auction, waiting for delivery, sending it back, finding another auction etc etc...

CurrysAuctions do not have a phone line - you can only email them (i tried googling, no0870, ringing the parent company DSG...). You can only email them.

CometAuctions you can phone them - they are very friendly, refund straight away and are very flexible on when they can come to collect the duff unit (i guess they've had practice here).

Just don't get your hopes up when a new item comes, and know what you're getting into.
