My wife's been offered a job

Hello again.

My wife (who isn't bankrupt) has been offered a job teaching in the local school as maternity-leave cover. Her income, therefore, for a few months is going to go up. However, with me still self-employed, our income is still variable.

Do I have to inform the OR of my wife's job (if she decides to accept)? If so, does this make a IPA more likely? Her full salary still wouldn't meet our monthly outgoings if I earned nothing in a month.

Yours enquiringly.

Absolutely not CC, it's none of the OR's business, and doesn't necessarily mean that she'll be contributing more to the household outgoings.

  • Thanks for that Peachy.

My concern was that my OR said "if your circumstances change" but, as you suggest, my circumstances won't necessarily.

Logical, but always good to hear it form someone else.

Exactly CC, it's your circumstances they only need to know about.

They can't make your wife contribute anything to your creditors. If you were to re-do your SoA to include your wife's increase in income which resulted in an IPA, your wife would be directly paying your IPA.

  • Hi, Im kind of in the same position, I am BR and my H isn't.
When I did my SOA he was claiming JSA so I put down his contribution as #50, and put the total for the rent and bills etc.
Now hes got a job I'm not sure what contribution to put him down as, hes only earning around #750-800 per month and has his own cc and bills ansd stuff to pay.
I dont have an IPA at the moment and naughtliy I really dont want one and am hoping for early discharge!
I was thinking of telling the OR his contribution is around #200 and then adjusting my SOA accordingly.
    Does this sound right??

You don't need to tell your OR anything, your circumstances haven't changed.

  • really? I know my circumstances haven't changed but he will be contributing more to the bills etc.

If I don't have to say anything then thats great and I wont!!!!!!!!!

Will he? Even after he's sorted out the arrears he now has from his time unemployed, and now that he has to pay to travel to work, and buy clothes and shoes for work, and eat while he's there........
