My daughter has beautiful hair that is straight as a dye(sp) once a week or so she gets fed up with it being straight.
I have to sit for hours with the curling tongs manually curling her hair, it must cost a fortune in electric.
Whilst telling my nan how frustrating it was to do this all the time only to find that within the hour it starts to drop as daughters hair is sooo thick and sooo heavy. Nan suggested using rags! "what you must be kidding how on earth are rags going to make my life easier"
Well, nan explained the process briefly and i gave it a try.
before

during

after

What a great result, it took about half an hour to wrap(first time i've done it) then she went to bed and took 5 mins to unwrap the next day. as the days have gone on her hair now looks wavy but she's so pleased with it that i think i will do it every weekend.
If anyone is already experienced with this method you may be able to help me. The result was what i describe as sausage curls (victorian) but i was hoping for a bouncy/springy looking curl, please let me know if you can help

yep no problem, i can write instructions but i found it difficult to understand (i'm a visual person)
you will need 15-20 strips of rag 1-2 inches wide (the thicker the rag, the bigger curls)and about twice the length of the hair
you need damp hair
take a 1 inch section
place a rag at the roots of the hair, leaving about 1 inch start wrapping the hair down the rag like a curler, in a spiral.
Once you get to the bottem it can be a little fiddly but you need to wrap the rag up the hair till it gets to the roots and you tie a knot with the start of the rags.
wrap all the hair like this and leave over night and just unwrap it in the morning and seperate the curls.
The hair cannot be too damp as it has to dry overnight to set the curls.
Pm me if my instructions are a bit backwards and i will take some pics of how to do itRunning total for swagbucks - £270 since Jan

A general tip for ragging is to wait until the hair is almost dry and then
scruch in some mouse, setting lotion or other styling product and then rag up. If you rag up wet hair you run the risk of it nor being dry in the morning. Ragging gives much longer lasting results than heated styling tools and providing you do not pull too tight and overstress the roots is much kinder to the hair.
FOR RINGLET CURLS I WOULD
Take the rag and roll up a section of hair starting at the root. Winding each revolve next to the precious one so you travel along the rag and form the ringlet.
FOR BARREL CURLS I WOULD
Take the rag and roll up a section of hair starting at the tip. Wind each revolve over the previous one so the roll gets fatter and fatter until you reach the roots.

Sorry for cross posting ya Dragon. That's one curly do BTW:D After years of poker straight curls are gonna come back if the catwalks and hair trade shows are any judge. My hair used to be not unlike the 'after' photo you posted. In my defence it was the 80's and Bon Jovi were big news:D plus if you work in hairdressing and graphic design (like wot I did) ya can get away with anything.:D
I'm afraid nowadays the only hair product I need is pledge spray and a damp cloth. heheheheLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -

Would love to see your before and after shots!!!
My Nan tried that to me once when I was little, my hair was right down my back and well, lets just say she got into a bit of a muddle, and afterwards my hair was no longer right down my back!!!!!October make £10/day currently £11.020 -
My mum used to plait (braid) my hair when it was damp, and then in the morning I'd have lovely waves right down my back.
You can vary it too - one plait gives you big, chunky waves, but you can do two or more plaits instead giving you progressively smaller waves. Just be careful not to go crazy like I once did - I put damp hair into about thirty tiny plaits overnight and in the morning my hair was all sticky-up and frizzy!!! Not a good look, especially as I had to go to school that day.
I think those ringlets in your daughter's hair look really nice, dragonfly02. I might give it a go myself sometime! My hair is thick too, so tongs and rollers never work for me either (and I still have hair down to my waist).

How painful was it sleeping in those rags  and all because we had straight hair and wanted it curly and now I have wavy hair and want it straight:rotfl:
Poundland were selling their own version of those bendy foam rollers ~ not sure how many you would need though, they come in packs of 10.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”
