Loan On Mortgage

My daughter-in-law pays an interest only mortgage owing about £45,000, is it possible for her to get a mortgage loan and increase say to about £10,000. This would be to pay for central heating etc. and refurbished kitchen. She has no heating in her home except for an electric fire in the lounge, small blower heaters round the house and no running hot water. She has to boil water in a kettle for kitchen jobs etc. The washing machine fills with cold and heats the water to wash.

As she is now a single mother and has four children it is very difficult to finance jobs that need doing in the house and hoping this would be a cheaper way of doing it. She tried to get a house with her local council but they said she had enough bedrooms and that was the only criteria, but she cannot maintain the house properly.

Be glad to hear from anyone with the pros and cons of doing this.

I have seen the Warm Front Scheme. It can provide for central heating. Would this grant be of use ? Do any other MSE members have experience of it ?

Thank you Joe I will let her know, I hadn't thought about that myself. Tending to think it was for the elderly, like me! I will go into the link and take a look. Many thanks for that suggestion.
