Does shop bought haggis smell vile when cooked?

I have just made one - smelt awful - thought it was off so I binned it. The inside stuff smelt ok and I tried a bit it tasted ok but was too frightened to eat the rest.
Did it in the oven with some water (1 hour)
Does haggis (MacSween) really smell awful when cooked - is it the stomach lining?
(I have put this elsewhere - but I'm a bit worried)

MacSweens is made in the traditional sheep's stomach bag...hence the smell
I take mine out and microwave it and it tastes yummy! 0 -
I slice it in a pyrex dish and dot with butter then heat in the oven for 40 mins and its lovely.0
