Tesco misprice - help please

Hi, A friend of mine was in Tesco this morning and bought a childs toy on sale at half price, or at least she thought it was, but when she was at the till she was charged full price.
She told the person on the checkout that because the SEL said the toy was half price then she was entitled to the item at half price but the assistant disagreed and said something about being able to "...stop selling the item at any time". My friend went over to the customer services desk and spoke to three people (including the store manager i think) but still didnt get the item at half price. She was offered 500 club card points but she politely told the person offereing them to "...shove your clubcard points up your...".
As i understand it, she should have got the item for the price displayed on the SEL and double the difference. Can someone please confirm this as true/false and offer any advice on what my friend could do?
Thankyou

Did she pay and obtain a receipt for the product?Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
I think so, yes.:cool:0

If she paid and obtained a receipt then the transaction was complete and she is entitled to dtd, if she complained before paying and the item was withdrawn from sale the store are within their rights, but all items must be cleared from the display and offending pos removed for a period if I'm not mistaken of no less than 24 hrs.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0

Thanks for that, if she has a receipt for the item i will tell her to go back to the store and ask for dtd.
Thanks again:cool:0 -

A retailer is well within its rights to refuse to serve any customer. As far as I understand it there is no law saying it has to sell something at the marked price if it's marked wrong (I remember Asda cancelling hundreds of online orders for 10p crates of beer or something like that a while back saying it was an error), though I know some shops do have such a policy (e.g. M&S) as an internal rule.
If, as you seem to suggest, she swore at the staff (and whatever you say, there's no way to swear politely), I'd say she should have been ejected from the store for being abusive.0 -
This is correct up to the point of sale, if the transaction has been completed the retailer is not in the position to withdraw from the contract formed.omelette451 wrote: »A retailer is well within its rights to refuse to serve any customer. Ah, that explains why people above asked whether she went through with buying it or not. Does this mean they have to pay up then?0 -

If the transaction was completed and her payment accepted then yes they do. If she spoke up prior to payment then they are within their rights given that they fulfill certain criteria to withdraw from the transaction with nothing more than an apology.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
