Cheap (HA!) Denby ware

Okay, so I've been after a nice dinner service (well, the plates part of one, anyway :)), we've been given a bit of money towards one for Christmas, went shopping and discovered Denby. Probably baaaadd. Discovered its expensive. Or at least, more than I was expecting to pay!!

Any ideas where I can get it cheap? Specifically, I'm after the "Linen" range (that's the colour, rather than what its made of ;)). I discovered one place online:

http://www.abbode-cookware.co.uk/ (who, by the way, do some really cool stuff, including an electronic bin!!), which does 20% off, but their postage is rather steep, and tends to negate most of the savings.

  • Denby actually has its own factory shops around the UK, if you have chance to visit it that would probably the best way to buy the Denby ware at cheaper prices.

Check out their website and see if there is one near you.
    Go to http://www.denbypottery.co.uk
and click on "Factory shops" tab on the top right corner.

Aye. I looked at that - the closest to me is in York, which is a bit of a trek at this time of year. I think the problem is that, having spent a lot of time on the Argos thread, I'm a bit spoilt now. Keep expecting to find things at 75% discount!!! ;D
  • ::) ::) ::) :P
Have you managed to find any bargain from Argos yet?

The first week it was on, my dyson blew up, and I managed to replace it with another - DC07, for just under £70, retails around £280. Since then, I've had a couple of different types of headphones for a couple of pounds each reduced from around £8, a PDA for £40, plus another, slightly different version for a friend at a few quid less - these are normally around £150 to £180 each; a wall mounted hose reel for £11 (plus postage - someone else found it and sent it on) - normally retails around £55, a lawn raker/scarrifier (moss raker thing) reduced from £60 to £15; a hedge trimmer from £60 to £15; a trick terrier toy reduced from £25 to a few pounds, and recently someone has kindly supplied virtually my whole family with packs of 4 and 3 DECT cordless phones at approx £20 each - these normally retail at around £80 to £100.

So yes, I've done quite well ;)

There are still a few items floating around - they seem to be harder to find now, but only yesterday I believe someone got a mini hifi system, and someone else got a Dyson (although they have gone back up to around £138.00 - still a good deal mind). 8)

Unfortunately, decent dinner sets don't appear to be on the lists!! ;D
  • Goodness me! You have done well there. You super bargain hunter! ;)

    Happy Christmas. ;D ;D
  • ???
That would depend on where you live! There's a factory outlet at McArthur Glen, Livingston, West Lothian (Near Edinburgh) if that's any help?
Bought my own there, and with a little time you can get a perfect set (it's technically a seconds shop so some of the plates have slight imperfections in the glaze or the colours aren't quite right, but it dependes how a@+**y retentive you want to be)
It's also nice to know there's a Gleneagles Crystal outlet too, so the whole dinner service can look expensive, but not be!!!
    Cheers

If you have access to a costco they usually have 2 colours of starter set 4x bowls, plates cups little plates, soup bowls etc.. this set is about £160 full price and when we got ours £102 at Costco. Unfortunately then its off to John Lewis or somewhere for some extra bits to match. Thats where the moneysavibg stops!!

Keep an eye out in Debenhams stores.

A couple of months ago they were knocking out the starter sets for £50 off.

We got two sets of Denby White for £79 each IIRC.

Then just wait for the 20% off and Blue cross events - plus discounts for Debenhams Card holders.

Generally seems to equal or beat the prices for 2nds from the Denby Outlet Shops (eg at Kendal K Shoes)

  • I started collecting Denby 'Blue Jetty' just before last Christmas. I started with a local independant shop that had 10% on a Christmas shopping evening.

Was going to get some more this year, but Debenhams had their 25% event, so went there and got 25% off instead.

My advice is find out your local stockists and watch for any special promotions they have (I will be keeping a close eye on Debenhams from now on).

I considered buying from one of the numerous online Denby stockists, but as someone said the p&p is steep, it is also almost impossible to post any amount of crockery without it getting damaged. If you read the terms and conditions of the Royal Mail or the major carriers, pottery and glass is usually excluded regarding insurance and breakages.
