phoning the tax office

Phoned the payment line (0845 366 1204) today to try set up a repayment plan, upon finally getting through i got a recorded message to enter account number, I maybe just being dense here but where do i find it? i tried keying in my tax reference (as shown on my payment form) but it says its the wrong one. no other information is given and if i dont key anything in i get told to phone customer services and then hung up on but no number to phone. Can anyone help?

I rang about an hour ago and got through to a human being immediately who let me split my tax bill up into ten equal monthly payments beginning end of feb, so they may be able to cut you some slack too. Didn't ask for any details of income or expenditure etc, just asked what I could afford.

It's 10 x numerics followed by a 'K'. But - as post #2 - you're better ringing the Payment Support Service number.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
