Hi,
I have been working for my husband on a self employed basis filling in a tax return annually. I now have got a full-time job, but obviously do not have a P45 to give them as you would in "normal " circumstance. Does anyone know how this works with going to a new employer? Do I give them the p45 from previous to self employment? Will I get taxed on an higher code initially, whilst this is sorted out?
Apologies wasn't sure if to post here on....
Many thanks

You ask the new employer for a form P46 which you complete to say this is your only or main job. You will be on emergency code until you submit your self assessment for 08-09 which determines your total liability for this year. From 6/4/09 you will be on a cumulative code.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

thank you for your quick reply. So I don't need to worry that I have nothing to give them!! I am nervous enough about starting a "proper job"!0

No, loads of people lose their P45's, come from abroad and so have never had one, come straight from school, etc. This is why the P46 was invesnted!£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0
