More help please!!

Thanks for the help earlier but now am getting very confused with filling in the SOA.

Basically both me and DH are going bankrupt and confused how to do the outgoings and incomings. My husband works, I don't, but all the benefits get paid to me. What do I put for DH's contribution and how do I show household expenses, shopping, bills, clothing etc on my SOA? Do I split them 50/50 or put the whole amount on each form. ie the rent we are jointly and severally liable for. I also have two small children so what do we do with their expenses? SO confusing and what happens if we don't work it out right?

Finally..we have a car each...not worth more than 1k each. DH needs his for work and I need mine as we live in a rural town with no decent public transport and I have two young children, one with special needs who has lots of appointments each week. Both cars are in Dh's name so I presume this is ok.

OMG...thanks listening! Our date is booked for 27th Feb at 9.30!!

You can decide whether you want the children as joint or on yours or his, what ever makes it easier for you. You put his full wage and your contribution to the joint bills. Doesn't have to be 50/50, it could be 80/20 if needs be.

On yours you put jount household expenses and your personal expenses. All your benefits and your DH contribution to the joint household bills. Might be easier to set it out first, add up your personal expenses to see how much you have to pay towards joint and then re-jig it till it adds up correctly.

DH will have no problem with his car but you will have to prove that the bus service is not appropriate and that taxi's will be expensive. Get a bus timetable and show that it will be impossible and make sure you explain about the special needs.

  • Thanks for that...take a bit of working out!! When you say to put down the bills on each, do we put 100% on each or 50% of each? I think the buses would be impossible especially with a double buggy with 2 children who can't yet stand let alone walk. This is all so complicated! Roll on 27th Feb!

You need to put 100% of your joint household expenses on both SoA's.

If the OR does say the car is to be taken then make sure you put enough travel expenses on for public transport. I have managed on the bus as I don't drive with a double buggy, baby and toddler and it is do-able. If there is a medical reason you can't use public transport then get a letter from your Dr.

Read the links in the Bankruptcy Help sticky and use those to help make a case for keeping the car.

I didn't have a car when my children were young so I too had to manage double buggy with 2 small children and shopping and 3 flights of stairs. You should see my biceps.
