Renting help

Hi we're looking at going bankrupt in March and having our house repossessed. We have been looking at rental properties and it's so depressing there are hardly any nice ones (i know it's my own fault but our house is awful so we were kind of hoping we could get a nice rental! also i'm pregnant so hormonal
)
We found a nice house and we've been upfront saying whats happening etc. The estate agent woman told me that as we were bankrupt we'd have problems as we won't have a bank account to pay a standing order. so i corrected her on that. Then we put our application in on monday, today my OH went in as we'd heard nothing and she said she was going to phone us that afternoon (it was already gone 4pm). The landlord had said no to having us because of bankruptcy so OH said what about if we pay the full 6 months up front. This wonderful (ok smug and arragont) woman then said what about after the first six months? The Offical reciever will want your money. So this wonderful (or as above) woman now thinks that not only can we not have a bank account the OR will take all our money. Yes because he's going to make us homeless isn't he!
Sorry i'm so annoyed as she's been really quite rude since i first called her as she obviously doesn't think we can afford it but we can. We think she told the landlord to say no.
OH is going into the estate agents tomorrow as there is a guy there who did know about bankruptcy so we're going to see if we can speak to him to explain whats happened and see if he'll talk to the landlord to see if they will take us he we pay 6 months up front every six months.
Sorry this was mainly to winge as i keep being told to 'think positively' and i can't and i just feel really crap now.
Any one else got any ideas or advice of what to do?
Thanks

Hi Charlie,
We managed to secure rented accomodation after we were both declared bankrupt, and it wasn't without it's difficulties, but it is eminently possible.
Emphasise the plus points of being bankrupt; no loans or credit card payments to make are always a good starting point.

Hi
Im a manager at a lettings agency and going BR, we dont have any suitable properties, so Im having to go else where, Ive told them I will fail the credit checks, and they are still ok for me to view because I have been honest, I have offered employment reference and proof that I have been paying my mortgage ( for the last 8 anyway) I have not told them I am going BR, I will check the Tenancy agreement for BR clauses. I will tell the LL once I get past the agents, I am a suitable tennant and hopefully they will see this.
However back to the point, LL's are as skint as us, they are deperate for TT's, we are accepting some BR tenants who have been honest, and who are working, so dont be put off by the lady ( she is obviously clueless when it comes to BR), try other agents, the actuall Landlords live in reality and think differently Keep positive!!!!!!!0 -
hey, I also work at a lettings agency, I know they allow bankrupts in our properties by the following ways... can you provide a guarantor? get a family member or good friend who will pass the credit checks to act as guarantor for you? or we accept 6 months rent up front, and its normally only the first 6 months after that the tenants pay as normal, if however they become two months in arrears the wheels are set in motion to get them out, iv never known this with a bankrupt though they are often the best payers!
good luck0
