Landlord Contacted!!

Evening all,

Had a surprise phone call today from Landlord. He said "I am confused, have been sent some letters indicating you are insolvent :rotfl:
(Understatement!!!!)
Not sure what it has to do with me though? You are 2 of the least likely people I know to have to do this!"

He was honestly shocked, as am I, Thought I would discuss contacting LL in OR interview (Tuesday). Am a bit upset as LL is a good man and has had some S**T tenants in the past. He has been really happy with us last two years.

Explained to him it was nasty banks fault for putting up interest rates. He then said " I used to be a bank manager"

Hopefully he will be happy to leave us here, we love this house and it is our (and ds1 -3yrs- ds2-18months) Home.

Am now nervous about OR interview again. (If they have time to contact LL why have they not contacted creditors that keep phoning :mad: )

I hope you said to the LL that it put you in a better position now as you never have to worry about paying the rent.

The OR has something like 8 weeks to let your creditors know about your BR. It then takes forever for it to filter through the echelons of the big conglomerates.

Good luck with your landlord, you shouldn't have a problem though if you have been there 2 years and managed to keep paying your rent with all your other debts and worries - you may need to point that out to him!

I didn't think OR would contact landlord at least until you had your OR interview. Just goes to show how different ORs behave.

Our landlord wasn't contacted (I know cos I work in an estate agents and rented one of our properties so any post for the landlord comes to work as we are managing agents).

I reckon this is reason enough not to worry. If you have been good tenants for two years, I doubt he would want to risk losing you to be honest and risk replacing you with further potentially troublesome tenants.

I'm sure landlords are always nervous as to how reliable their next tenants will be so I'm sure the fact that he knows you always have been reliable will be in your favour and I'm sure he knows it would be in his best interests to let you remain, especially if (as it sounds) you have longer term desires of staying there.

Well, at least he was surprised to hear of your BR - to me that means that you must be a good tenant and the last person he would think it could happen to.
Although I am a HA tenant I thought I would tell my Housing Manager before the OR did and the conversation took place in my flat teatime yesterday......

To say he was stunned was an understatement! No probs though and we even discussed a move to another property in the next 12 months.
Interestingly, he didn't know that BR was for 12 months now - he thought it was for years!

Anyway, back to you oggly, you will be fine.......

I went bankrupt in july 2008 and my landlord was informed by the OR.
I was renting off him for 4 years and was never late with a payment.I received a phone call saying when my lease was due for renewal he wanted six months rent upfront or wouldnt renew, obviously i couldnt do this and moved out.
I am now renting somewhere else which is much better with an understanding landlord and my previous house has been empty for the past two months.

Depends really....you can ask the OR not to contact your landlord...never a guarantee they wont though, depends on the OR really :rolleyes:
