Has anybody changed the brush bar on dyson?

Hi All

Hoping some of you lovely peeps can help me.

My dyson isn't picking up very well on carpets:mad: , after checking for blockages, I've come to the conclusion I need to replace brush bar.

Checked Dyson website for accessories, to find don't supply them as it's a job for an engineer. I've found another site which I can order brush bar from.

My question is has anybody changed theirs and is it easy enough or do I need an engineer.

  • Hi

I've taken my dyson apart quite easily and put it back together again!! I don't see how you would need an engineer but just so you know..If you call out an engineer for a dyson problem its £65 all in...parts and everything...I called one out for mine and he found that my motor had burnt out..so he replaced the motor, the filter, the entire hose section (it had snapped months before but was still usable) and the brushes for £65...bargain!!

Dyson customer service are excellent as well....

  • I would say it is pretty easy to change. I take the brush unit apart regularly (well, maybe 2 or 3 times a year) as I have long hair and moult so it needs a good cleaning to get all the hair out.
If yours is like mine there are 3 plastic screws on the bottom which you unscrew and the brush cover just comes off. The rotating brush is fairly easy to remove, just be careful with the belt. Maybe cleaning the bristles will give you a better clean?

  • I had the same problem with my dyson (DC01) - when I took the sole plate off, it turned out that the belt had snapped - all I needed was a new belt. I bought a new one online and fitted it - it wasn't very difficult and it solved the problem :)

    hope that helps :)
  • Thanks for you answers.

I've checked everything including defuzz the brushes and the pick up on the floor is very poor, which is why I thought a replacement brush bar might just do the trick.

I hate my dyson's performance at the best of times, but need to kill this one off first before buying a decent one( not dyson again though).
