Not exactly a win, but I've just received a cheque for £602.35 !!

FROM THE TAX MAN !!

I applied for the 2002-3 CHild Tax Credit as mentioned here
I wasn't sure if I'd already had it or not as I've divorced and moved house since then so didn't have my tax details from back then, but it turns out I hadn't claimed it back then.
The deadline is Saturday, so if you think you might qualify, it would be worth sending an application off 1st class first thing tomorrow

I think I sent it in the 1st/2nd week of December and had nothing back to say they'd received it. I called last week and was told that they had so many forms that they couldn't acknowledge receipt and also that I'd sent mine to the wrong tax office :( So, I ended up sending another one recorded delivery to the correct tax office.
Then today I get the cheque dated 22nd Jan from yet another tax office !!
