no mileage ??

hi i have started as a home care assistant, where i visit people in their own homes, i use my own car for this and had to add business use onto my insurance, i get £6.80 ph and work 5 nights a week, 16 - 20 hours per week, the company i work for say they dont pay milage but i can claim back (as tax relief i think) but when i asked at the tax office it works out i wouldnt get anything bacause i probably wont earn enough to pay tax, so i just have to pay £20 - £30 per week on petrol ? other companies pay you a milegae allowance but it looks like il just have to lump it ? does this seem right ?

btw i drive about 35-40 miles per day for 5 days a week.

if your company wont pay it, your right the only thing is to claim tax relief. if you dont pay tax then this doesnt apply. check your P60 at the end of the tax year, if you have paid tax, call the tax office and ask for a P87 form for the year 2008-2009. hope this helps

There is no legal obligation for them to pay you a mileage allowance. The other firms in the same line of work that pay mileage may pay a lower hourly rate though.
