I took advantage of this. My car passed the MOT. I really did expect the dealer to phone me telling me, it needed this and that etc.

My car has been cleaned too. :T
  • Sham, Sham, Sham! Lame, Inept, Dishonest.......

I booked my audi in for their menu priced major service as well as the MOT,

got the dreaded phone call to list a catalogue of items that 'needed repair' they'd spoted during the service which they claimed were needed to be done to pass the MOT.

I was at work at the time and wasn't able to tal for long, so asked the service manager to justr recap on the items that 'must' be done in order to go the mot - suddenly 2/3 of what she had initially said must be done were actually not obligatory. I ended up just saying please just complete the major servcie items, and I'd get all other work doen elsewhere - i.e. don't put the car through the MOT.

COMPLETE SHAM - I took the car elsewhere, having had a puncture legally repaired which Audi had said could not be repaired - the car passed! I had even warned the 2nd MOT station that I was in dispute with Audi - so had 1/2 expected they'd be over cautious about what was OK.

Complained to the Audi service Manager - utter waste of time - he put it all down to 'missunderstanding! I queried how you can tell a customer something must be done...then all of a sudden it is actually only an 'advise' item....

Lots of other nonsense from Audi - they wanted £25 to replace a rear bulb which a complete novice could change in approx. 10mins, then said they could not road test the car due to this broken bulb.....yet they still drove the car back to my home address ( as it was a collect and return service! ).

The MOT and their cut price menu costs for servicing is Great - if you go into it with your eyes wide open, and your hand tighly gripping your wallet.

Also the car managed to go through the hands of at least 2 or 3 staff and a major service - and not one person identified a major fault with the gear box. This is all the more surprising / dissappointing given I'd actually spoken to at least 2 of trhe staff - and ASKED THEM to look at this fault.... What training is Audi giving their staff??

Even more irritating - after the Audi servie the invoice said it had failed their MOT - even though I'd instructred them not to carry it out, and there was no formal MOT fial paperwork - just a typed line on the invoice.

My neighbour has had a similar experience of a different branch of Audi stating a large amount of work had to be done to fix an electric window - only to take the car elsewhere and discover there was actually only a much cheaper part which need to be replaced

so sorry to hear about your experience. can i ask if this was in london? as i'm planning on getting mine done in south-west london and would appreciate a heads up is it's the same area you went to and found such terrible service..
  • Sheer vanilla - you're ok ( or possibly not given loads of other people posting here:o - but on other threads - to say quite how devious audi are - my experience was in Oxfordshire.

key aspect is - do Audi 'advise' work is a good idea now / give you an idea of how long before something wears out.....or do they say it ( must) be doone now, no room for subjective debate.

I'm getting mine done on Friday in London. Just the free MOT. Will report back!

My local ford dealer altered my service history book to make it require a service 4 months earlier than necessary. Needless to say, I haven't gone back to them since, and it wont be having its MOT done there either.

I think knowing "a guy with a garage" is much better than a dealership - sort of shopping in the high street as opposed to a supermarket - it usually works out much cheaper in the long run :D
  • Would not recommend Audi Manchester to anyone, have had ok experience with others, took the immaculate Audi car in for the free MOT, not only did they give it back with an obvious scratch on the back the bearings are off and the breaks are now squeeky! Luckily saw the scratch on the back, and the salesman was quick to point out that they had made a note of that already and that they didn't do it....coincidence they happened to note that NOT in my presence. Am so annoyed will be opeing a dispute with them after having the car checked at an Audi branch in London thaat I do trust.....total jokers in my opinion!!
  • I actually had my Audi's MOT done a couple of weeks ago at a South-West London branch. Despite the car having a few faults they passed it with an ''advisory note''! I was quite impressed as it was a borderline case and they could've failed it. Sorry to hear about the bad experiences people are having elsewhere :(

just booked mine in... watch this space
  • We had a really bad experience with this "free" MOT:(

Our Audi garage is about an hours drive away from us (difficult if you only have one car and have a family meaning school runs etc), however we booked in the free MOT as it seems a great offer.

We were considering the service too as we were told there was a special offer on.

We decided to do the MOT first as we could not work out from the log book which service it needed, so the lady advised we take the log book for them to work it out.

We were told we could have a courtesy car for the day and they would look after us, (if we had had the service they could have driven to us in a courtesy car and taken our car, then returned to us when service was complete, brilliantI thought!)

We got there and were told we would have to wait several hours as they were busy (with paying customers) we were not entitled to a courtesy car after all.

We were told to walk into town about 10 minutes walk, as we couldn't wait there! (I am disabled so this was a bit of a shock) and they would phone when ready, this was worrying as we had to get back for school run.

We did get into town and after many hours and no phone call we walked back, we were given a list of things wrong and surprise it had failed!

We were told it would be about £400 to pass and they had listed things like tax disc to high in window, air freshener in wrong place, bulbs wrong colour of orange! bolts that needed replaced that were "special Audi bolts" and a wiper blade.

We asked if they could do the simple things, like bulbs, bolts and wiper there and then, but were told they couldn't do the work that day and to make a time to come back, (and by the way we couldn't have a courtesy car as they were all booked up months in advance), so it would mean another long wait for a day while they did the work (that they couldn't even guarantee would be finished in a day) leaving us stranded there!.

Oh and btw that offer for the service had run out last month!

We left really worried but decided to get a second opinion at our local garage, as it turned out we did need one thing done, but the cost of having the repair done and having to pay for the MOT was not even close to what Audi wanted, by several hundred, in fact what we paid in total to have the repair was what Audi wanted just for the mechanic to do the work!
and btw the bulbs were the right orange!

A week or so went by and I got a call from Audi asking when we wanted to book in the work, i told them we had decided it was to far to go and we couldn't wait around for a day (as i had been ill too) so rather than go around (illegally) without an MOT we had used a local garage, they then had the cheek to say they would be charging us for the MOT as we weren't having the work done!

I argued the point that we had used the free voucher for the MOT and there was no conditions on the use, the lady got really funny with me so I revealed the fact that the car had passed with none of the things Audi had reported wrong bar one repair, and that it was done at a fraction of the price they had quoted, plus the bulbs were the right orange! at that point she agreed we had used the voucher and got off the phone ;) but I found it really upsetting.

My advice would be to only use this deal if you are 100% sure nothing needs done (and your bulbs are the right orange for Audi!)
If they do say your car needs something, go away and get prices else where - you may find the repair and paying for an MOT is still far cheaper than what Audi want.
