Monster website security breach / ID theft

Hi everyone,
can you please give me some advice on this:
I have a profile with the Monster website (like many other people that are jobhunting), and they were hacked into recently and people's personal details stolen.
Experts say this may cause issues of identity theft in the future as those responsible can apply for credit etc under the names n details of people listed with Monster.
My question is: Those who are registered there, how can we keep an eye on this? I recently signed up with Experian to check my credit rating (just for the free period) n unsubscribed again.
How an I keep an eye out for identity theft n monitor what's happing under my name, without having to sign up with an expensive website all my life?
can you please give me some advice on this:
