Out of work childminder entitled to Job seekers allowance??

Hi
Wondering if anyone could help. I am a childminder but stopped work to have my baby last year and my maternity allowance is due to run out next month. I am advertising to start childminding again but if I dont manage to get any work will I be entitled to job seekers allowance or any other benefits?

I need to start earning money again for childminding ASAP but if I cant get any children to look after I will need some other form of income.

Does anyone know how this all works, would I need to be looking for other jobs to do as in being employed by someone rather than being self employed?

my OH does work full time, i will go to the job centre to see what they say, hopefully it will be ok if nothing comes along!

That depends on your income. You can only get income-based JSA. As a self-employed person your NICs don't give you any right to contribution-based JSA.

Are you prepared to take any job?
This is what you sign up for when claiming job seekers allowance.

Or are you just wanting to claim an allowance until you have other children to mind?
If this is the case you are not technically available for work.
