O2 offer guaranteed credit check pass

Apparently O2 is offering a guaranteed credit check pass to people who sign up in the store. If you are declined for a 12/18 month contract with a handset then you will be approved to connect to a 30-day Simplicity tariff (which doesn't include a phone) with no deposit, and after 6 months good history you will be eligible to upgrade to a "proper" contract with handset.

Looks like quite an interesting proposal, especially given the cheap price of handsets, if you are declined for a full contract then take up the Simplicity offer, buy a cheap PAYG handset that does what you want, build up 6 months good payment history and then you'll be eligible for a better handset free.

Hmmm i'd be interested in seeing what happens with this :D

That certainly is interesting Phil, Mr P was declined a Simplicity 'contract' last year so had to PAYG.

Seems O2 have realised they'll be running out of people who will pass the credit check :D

    Hi Phil,

Will watch this one with interest as I included o2 for £2k in my business liquidation and about £300 in my personal BR, would be good to think there is life after pay as you go:D

Thanks for emailing us about the 30 day SIM Only contract.

From 25 January 2009 we've implemented a new process in our Retail stores. Customers who have been declined for a contract can connect to our 30 day SIM Only contract.

All new customers requesting a contract are credit scored. If the new customer is declined for the handset/ tariff but still generates a high enough score, then we would be delighted to offer 30-day SIM Only to them. Customers who are declined a contract will only be offered our 30-day SIM Only.

Additionally customers who get a deposit decision will now have a choice to either pay the deposit (which is normally refunded after three months) or take a 30-day SIM Only tariff instead.

Customers who have connected to a 30-day SIM Only tariff via this new credit vet or who choose not to pay the deposit will also be able to upgrade to a handset after six months as long as they have been paying their bills on time. I'm unable to comment on the credit check done in the store. For information, please visit our nearest O2 store.

The SIM Only contract is for 30 days and doesn't include a phone in the contract.
Hope this clears up any confusion
