Tax Return and BR

Hi all,

Have a quick question about by 2007-2008 tax return and BR.

Just about to fill out my online tax return. During the above period I earned some money that I am liable to pay some income tax on. I subsequently went BR in October 2008. I didn't think to include this on my list of debtors in my petition.

Am I liable for this tax?

Or is it included in the BR. Do I just drop a note to the OR and is there a place to mark this on the tax return?

Cheers

  • Hi not sure if this will help, but i am due to go BR in February and will have a self assessment tax return to do in April for 2008 - 2009. The BR helpline with CCCS told me that any tax debt incurred before BR can be classed as a debt and will be included in the bankruptcy.
  • I'm just about to do our tax return as well, due to be bankrupt in two weeks, I'm wondering if they actually require a return, as the amount is due to get caught up in the BR anyway?

Our tax return for the period will show a loss anyway...funny that!

    Thanks Starry Night,

Do I have to inform the OR of the debt (he is unaware of this) and do I mention I am BR on the online return?

    Thanks
  • Hi Brillo

Am not 100% sure, but I would inform OR. When I asked the BR helpline where on the forms I should fill this in he said put it in Section 13, and put down that it is an unknown amount of tax (as won't know how much until April 2009). Not sure if this helps.
