  • Hi Flutterby, I hadn't realised that you are only a year older than me! You have such a lot to cope with you, you are doing really well. Well done for getting to grips with your finances. My DH and I have just started dealing with our debts as well, as you can see from my sig!
As far as DLA goes - I get it for depression and agoraphobia. It is for any condition that has a serious affect on your life, that you have had for at least six months and that is an ongoing condition.
It is the most difficult form in UK to fill out - officially - and I had help from two social workers. They are both experienced in filling this form out, and they would not let me play down my condition one little bit! You have to say how you are on your worst days according to them.
Without the money from DLA we would not have made it through the last few months. Things are looking up though as I have been able to start work (2 days a week) and my OH has FINALLY agreed to take our financial situation seriously and make an effort to expand his business and get enough work to work full time. He has been part time up to now, and just waiting for work to come to him instead of looking for it. I have been [STRIKE]nagging[/STRIKE] encouraging him to advertise and he actually is now! It took a letter saying our electricity was going to be cut off and me bursting into tears on a train and saying I couldn't go on like this and he needs to buck his ideas up for him to make the changes though. He is acting on his promises with support from me which is great. He is a lovely man, I love him to bits and don't want to make him sound irresponsible, but he just a bit naive when it comes to finance!
Sorry to ramble on like this, just wanted to show my support for you. :T

I didn't mean exaggerating... but worst case scenario or when things are particularly bad can mean alot more support etc needed. DLA needs to know realistic specifics. There's no point in writing, 'most days I'm fine, but there are odd days when I can't do much around the house.'

Maybe using the phrase 'worst case scenario' wasn't a good choice.

your spot on it not and thats a recent move in the goal posts and somewhere I have a document with the reason for the change in this point of view just cant find it ... will copy it here when I find it

Just a thought but would you get free school dinners? This would help a lot.
    Good luck with everything hun

  • LUCKYCHARLIE - thanks for the support, it means alot.

BEXXIE90 - No im not entitled to free school dinners due to my partner working and we are in receipt of working tax credit. My kids have packup which being fair doesnt cost too much as i am very good with leftovers, freezer cooking, batch cooking, using leftovers and making big salads. but thanks for the idea.

As far as the DLA is concerned, me saying "worst case scenario" wasn't the wording I meant at all. Just to clear that up!!

My 10 year old daughter is going on a school residential to Dol-y-Moch, so I have things I need to buy for this, eg hiking boots etc, I have told her to ask her teacher tomorrow for a list of things needed early so that i have time to look and afford them. I am looking on Ebay for most things and cheapy shops eg instead of spending £8-10 on hiking socks for one week, going to poundland instead.

If anyone knows things that are needed for this particular residential, please let me know.

    THANKS

  • Hi, well me and the OH have just looked on Tesco online to see how much it would cost to stock up the cupboards with all essentials and it came to £309!! bearing in mind there was about 40 herbs and spices all dried stuff (plus 4xbaby formula) and loads more, so we decided that this month we will stick to the £100 max inc baby formula in order to pay off a debt and a bit towards another and then next month buy the big stock up shop and then for the next 2-3 months after that live off £100 max again to pay more off the debts. lets see how it goes!!!

  • OK well I am not impressed with his snow lark at all! I have had to cancel my Physio appt and my daughters Orthodontist appt (again) that was for tomorrow!! and also I was meant to be doing my shopping around town/ green grocers and butchers etc tomorrow which is my only day in the month i can do it so i am not impressed.

But good news though, I told my Mom that i was buying heaps of herbs and spices (*as in pretty much all of them!!) and she told me that as I give her the empty baby food jars she will refill them with all the herbs and spices she has (well not all but some of all of the different ones she has lol) she grows her own bay leaves and rosemary and prob more so that is handy.

And also I told her that I wanted one of those Dymo (i think its called) label printer thingys and she said she has loads at work that they had free and that she will give me one, so that saves me £20 odd!!

I am paying this ADDITIONS debt off tomorrow so that makes me happy. One more debt gone!! :D

Right well the kiddies are Swiffering the floor for me and putting their stuff away (they are really helpful for me as they know i cant stay on my feet long) and then we are going to watch Mr Majoriums Wonder Emporium

  • KARMACAT - Thanks about the name;) , it is my nickname from my OH and has stuck as sign in names for EVERYTHING lol. As for the fags, I can't stand to smoke rollups but I remember a few years ago, a mate and I used to buy the "Concept" rolling machine and the filter/rizla type things (basically the whole outside of the fag minus the tobacco) and then you would make your own, which worked out cheaper especially if you can get duty free fags off someone taht has been abroad. So we bought them again the other week, just waiting to get some baccy off someone now lol hopefully that should bring the price down!:D

    ROSEPINK
    - Yeah judging by your screen name I assumed you were just younger than me. I can sympathise with the depression and agoraphobia. I too suffered with depression and PND for about 9-10 years and also have had agoraphobia to an extent on and off for the same amount of time. No worries about rambling lol:cool: , I'm the same, and isn't that kinda the point of these! So feel free to come and have a natter anytime!!:D :D

Well as for general stuff, I paid off my ADDITIONS debt:T :rotfl:  :j
So that is one debt outta the way.

We did the shopping last Tuesday, around town instead of supermarkets which was a pain in the backside as we don't drive so had to lug everything on the pushchair, was quite funny seeing me with a crutch trying to push a pushchair one handed which was full of shopping and OH struggling with bags...and that was only the half of it, we dropped three and a bit of those huge bags for life full of fruits veg salad and meat in my Mom's car - luckily she works the other side of town! and was having the kids after school that night so could drop them back!! We spent around £200, had originally hoped to spend around £100 max including baby formula x4, but I thought sod it, we've paid off a debt at least, only got 1x formula tho...oops:rolleyes:

I'm so used to buying value meat and I tried some of the minced pork that i got and made like a fajita type thing in tortillas but with mince instead of meat pieces....my OH is fussy and wary of trying new things...4 tortillas full later he wanted more haha:rotfl: wel lets just say...they were YUMMMMMMY!!

Well I sold some of my Ebay stuff so far.. I have made about £60 so far and people are bidding on stuff that ends today and this week totalling about another £50-60 so far. XXBABYXFLUTTERBYXX on Ebay if you are interested btw lol. I have sent some of the funds from Paypal to my bank and will do the same with the next lot as it is going towards another debt Namely my GAS debt which I found out yesterday is £351 and they have taken the payment plan off so it needs paying ASAP!

I've jsut called my Tmobile mobile account and it states I have paid this month's bill which I am really comfused about so I am sat on hold at the moment listening to DUFFY on hold lol to double check it. If it is the case then there is £50 spare I have!!

Right best go as the kids are back from school so best watch some TV etc lol.

    Tara for now x:rotfl:

  • Hi Flutterby, how are ya getting on? Did you hear back about DLA? What you been up to lately?
I went to the bank and shopping yesterday, which was really tough - was in a big panic about it the night before which meant I had very little sleep. Am trying to do housework today and procrastinating about washing up! Other thread I'm on are Flylady and the Depression Support Thread, there are nice people on both those threads if you want to join in!
Hope you and the kids are well, Lots of love

  • Hey Rosepink I am not too bad thanks hun and yourself?

Well done on getting the bank and shopping done yesterday, I know how hard it can be at times. I went into town with OH and kids yesterday for my physio appy and MD orthodontist appt, good news on both fronts, I dont need to go back to physio just continue taking meds long term, and daughter only needs to wear braces at night as teeth have straightened up (she had one that had grown behind front baby tooth so once the two baby teeth came out then brace was fitted to push big tooth forward) I was suffering abit with going out yesterday, I was really paranoid and panicky. We had a look around the shops then looked in the Transport museeum shop as it was too late to look round the museum and had a coffee in the coffee shop. We never get takeout coffee so thought what the hell..a treat for once.

My daughter found 1p road kill or shop kill as she called it as was on the floor of Home Bargains lol, speaking of that shop, I bought a whole box of Hersheys Reese cups too as they were 15p per pack. I thought I know Im tryin gto save and have the kids eat healthy but for that price it wouldnt hurt for the occasional pack up lol.

Speaking of roadkill and the selaed pot/£2 club,Iv been doing really crap lately lol, hardly anything has been going in and its only been since i didnt do a supermarket shop last month, because we have had to keep going to buy things that i didnt end up getting, so i think we are actually better off actually doing the supermarket shop. I went through my freezer last night to see what we needed for this months shop and my freezer is jammed full.

    I have (at the least)

    9 HM bolly
    2 boxes cooked pearl barley
    1 box HM spicy pork
    2 HM lasagnes
    1 HM pork casserole
    1 HM beef casserole
    garlic sausage
    sausages
    joint of pork x 2
    chicken
    chicken breast x4
    beef mince x 1kg
    veg fingers x10
    beef steaks x2
    pork chops x 4
    cooking bacon x 2 packs
stewing steak x1kg just rbered its gotta go in freezer been in fridge since fri oops hope its ok just smelled it, its smells off, gutted it cost a bit!
    HM quiche
    beef bones
    pork bones
    and lots more

It made me think, maybe i shouldnt buy meat this month, but looking at my online shopping list i did, the meat i have added is such god value so i dnt know what to do, cos i wont fit much in anyways.

Wel I found out my gas debt is £780 so i spoke to a dept at NPower and they said if i pay £66 per month for current bills then after 6 months they will clear £500 of the debt and after another 6 months theyll clear the rest!! woop

Bad news tho, i had a letter stating i have to pay my ex £480. He has 2 of my kids living with him, and wont let any of us see them hasnt done for nearly 2 years :( its annoying how i have to pay him, i dont mind if the kids would be getting the money its not like i dont want to provide for my kids, but it will go on his weed and smokes etc. plus we never see them, which pises me off considering the father of my 2 girls hasnt paid maintenance in 10 years and i wont see a penny of that. one rule for one, one rule for the rest eh!!

Right well iv just bakes lemon and lime fairy cakes, orange cake, carrot and orange cake and an apple, pear and choc crumble. so im gonna go chill now.
