Anyone know where I can get makeup samples??

Hi guys

I've got very very problematic skin, and have spent lots of money on products/makeup, which have been very hit and miss.

I am yet to find a brand where I can use all of the products, so if I find something that doesn't cause a breakout or itchy eyes, I just use it to death.

So, to avoid spending loads on trying stuff, I was hoping I could get some samples from different companies??

Any ideas??

Thanks x

PS I've done a search for Free Makeup Samples, but everything that comes up asks me to enter competitions, and will pass my details to 3rd parties, etc.

Hi Spendy - just keep logging on here.

Loads of stuff comes up all the time: a large proportion is not comps. (although may double up a bit) as this is freebie board (& comps. are on sep. one) - just decide what you want to try for & apply.

If freebie suits you, just follow instructions (you may need to register first but simple - normally just name, address, e-mail & no obligation). Just send off for what you think suits - if unsure, may be worth trying anyway as this is the point of samples.

Alternitively, pin point what you are allergic too (all companies nowadays will give you/list ingredients) so just eliminate & avoid, or stick to the ones you have already found & know suit.

    Happy hunting!

...or as sassie suggests go into shops/counters and ask & explain problem. One of my nieces had v. bad excema when younger. After trying more medicinal things I took her to Lush. She was over the moon - the assistants like latching on to an interested party & she was ever so pleased with all the personal attention.

After a more 'medical' approach, she was so pleased to find 'trendy' options, and, I have to say, found something that improved her condition alot/worked after ages of trying to find something.

Try to pinpoint ingredients you are allergic to.
  • i got to boots and debenhams a lot, i use clinique (only get it when there is a bonus time offer on tho) and as they have my details,i get free samples when i go in,i just ask and get loads!

edit - i suffer from eczema on my face. you can also try boots no7 counters for freebies, their items are hypo-allergenic

  • Hi

LilyLolo do samples of mineral make up. Not free but very cheap (99p)

This stuff is proper mineral make up so does not contain any fillers or talc. The idea is that minerals do not allow bacteria to grow, unlike starch and talc fillers which are normally present in make up.

I like it and it lasts ages :D

If you email Avon with details of your skin type, they seem to be good at sending out little samples

I would go to a store, get them to do a patch test on your neck or wrist or inside of your elbow- chances are if you don't flare up there, your face will be ok as these are very delicate parts of your skin too.

I wouldn't ask for samples tbh- if your face does anything like my friends face does (she is also allergic) it goes up like a sore balloon and does not come down for days- it gets worse each time she uses something and is best left to patch tests or not at all (unless your counting on not going out for several days...)

Good companies to try though (that tend to veer towards more natural products) are
Clinique: no perfumes or colourants in their products
Origins: organic as much as possible and reduced man made ingredients
B never to busy: range by Lush, not sure if they are on the net but they have a shop on Oxford Street London and probably a few elsewhere. They are made by Lush so I would assume they have a similar sort of ethos: natural as much as possible and may even have vegetarian and vegan products.
Body Shop: though I am wary about advising these as they were bought by L'Oreal not so few years back, who do use many additives and possible allergy reacting stuff in their products and they may well have changed the ingredients of the Body Shop range.
You could also try Dermalogica- ask them via email about any products- think they only do foundation, but not 100%. Either way they know a lot about skin and may be able to point you in the right direction for make-up brands to try.

I have sensitive skin, eczema and allergies... and I swear by Clinique. The skin consultant who did my first batch of allergy tests when I was younger recommended I tried out Clinique or Estee Lauder. As my sister already used Clinique and liked it, that's the brand I tried out. Also, Estee Lauder seemed too 'old' for me at the time!

It's expensive, but the skin on your face is so thin and fragile, if you have skin problems, it's not worth scrimping. I'd rather buy new clothes once in a blue moon and be able to afford makeup for my face that doesn't irritate my skin. Clinique's definitely worth a go.

Elemental Beauty (google it) do some mineral & some healing powders & foundations.
Some of the girls here with really sensitive skin swear by it.

They do tiny samples for silly money, I think 55p:D

I love their face powder, concealer & under eye brightener.
I don't use mineral make up, but their is susposed to be very soothing.
