Job in banking sales - credit checks......

Hiya

This on behalf of someone else actually, I was wondering if anyone on here knew - they've applied for a job with one of the large banks in an inbound call centre. They have some late payments and a poss default on their credit file - will they turn him down? He's passed the assessment etc., and told them he's had late payments so....??

Thanks

  • Hi,

I`m not sure of current process but the Banks definately used to run CRA data checks to check that the potential employee is verified on the electoral register to confirm a valid address.

I guess at the same time all defaults/ CCJs/ Cifas data would naturally come to light.

In view of your friend...unless serious defaults...a few late payments would not be a major issue...especially if they have been looking for a better paid job or had a period out of work then a few late payments would be normal.

When I worked in a bank a few years back, they forced you to open a current account with them. I was told that they did this so that they could verify your credit status and monitor it. They would only pay your wages into their current account so if you refused to open an account, they wouldn't employ you. My brother got a written warning for going overdrawn when he worked at Natwest (in the days before it was bought by RBS). Things may be different now though.

if he has an ccj's/defaults that arent satisfied and the job is with rbs/natwest he wont get it. he may well have passed the interview but once they do a cred chk he'll be turned down.

If your friend has any CCJ's then the application to offer him a job will be withdrawn. This is what i am aware of from Barclays anyway.
