Graduate jobseeking esp with a 2.2 degree

I have an economics degree, but it's a 2.2. Apparently, 2/3 of graduate schemes require a 2.1 or 1st and it's incredibly difficult to get a decent job. Here's a list of where to look:

List of recruitment consultants: www.rec.uk.com
www.efinancialcareers.com
www.jobstoday.com
www.reed.co.uk (especially good, can search by direct employers too)
Times, Telegraph and Guardian websites
www.monster.co.uk
www.milkround.com (lists all major graduate schemes+internships)
www.prospects.ac.uk (good for exploring career types)
www.fish4.co.uk
www.totaljobs.com (especially good)
www.londonjobs.co.uk
www.jobsite.co.uk (award winning)
www.graduatejobsnet.co.uk
www.graduate-jobs.com
www.gradplus.com
www.ukgraduatecareers.net
www.workcircle.co.uk
www.gaapweb.com (good for accounting jobs)
www.aviationjobsearch.com
www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk (good for local work)
www.secondpost.com (good for second jobs after graduating)
www.targetjobs.co.uk
www.charityjob.co.uk
www.thirdsector.co.uk (good for charity jobs)
www.bpp.com (good for professional qualifications)
www.jobsgopublic.com (public sector jobs)
www.insurancejobs.co.uk
www.onlineinsurancejobs.co.uk
www.google.co.uk (you'll be amazed what you can find)
www.step.org.uk (good for work experience)
www.met.police.uk (they have a graduate scheme and many other jobs)
www.jobs.trovit.co.uk

If you have 12 months experience in the sector you wish to work in, checkout the Mountbatten Internship.

Many of the public sector graduate schemes take a 2.2, like the NHS.

If you dedicate 4/5 hours everyday to browsing these websites, then you will become employed soon!

Hi. Thanks for that useful information. If its any consolation, I don't think a 2.2 will hold you back in life. I know people with firsts who are unemployed and people with a "gentleman's third" who are in top jobs. I have a 2.1 and have just lost my job (credit crunch!) and am looking for another. I wouldn't get too hung up on your grade - employers are far more bothered about what you can do and what sort of person you are. Just get all the experience you can. Good luck.
  • I also got a 2.2 & found these particularly useful, you can search by degree grade:

I'm guessing with everything, there has been a degree of grade inflation in recent years, and whilst it is not supposed to matter a but I guess a 2:2 from some universities would be considered better than at others. Also subject matter ... a degree in Economics or one in something more fluffy ?

2:2 in economics - enough to train as a maths teacher ?

I had a lecturer who said he marked out of 75%..( think he did it to balance out some more generous marks being given out).

  • LOL! I know this is an old post but in case anyone reads it worrying about whether their degree is enough. Even grads with firsts and 2:1s will need to work extremely hard these days to get on to such a scheme. Tbh, I don't always think these schemes suit everyone either - it didn't suit me and I got a first! I preferred taking the route I took and it didn't stop me fulfilling my career aspirations.

Just didn't want anyone feeling bad now that we're coming up to results time!
