Sorry for any errors in spelling - has anyone been able to source this in this country?
I know it is easily available in US but when I tried to find it, I was told that it was on the dangerous substances list and was offered surgical spirit which is a completely different chemical as I found to my cost when trying to clean a mirror with it!!!!!!
I was told the same about borax, however know they now sell it in Boots.
Do you know where you can buy rubbing alchohol?

Hiya, on the American - English site I use it says Rubbing alcohol is surgical spirit, so not a lot of use to you sorry.I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle0

Sorry, cant help as i've been looking for this too. I want it to get rid of the blasted mealy bugs that are threatening to kill my aloe vera's.
You arent alone in your quest0 -
It depends on what you want to use it for really. If it's as a disinfectant then you might want to look for Chlorhexidine based products as an alternative.
I've just looked on Ebay and you can buy isopropyl alcohol there"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

It's pretty easy to get hold of.
Any chemist should be able to order it. (cheapest, usually comes in brown galss bottles)
or otherwise order some from maplins or other similar shops:

I use it for clean stuff lots.0 -

Was just about to say the same thing!! A search on rubbing alcohol brought up one seller selling at £4 odd plus £2 postage and packing for quite a small bottle.I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. Not if they want it to clean electrical items or tops of CPU's though!
And don't forget it it VERY flammable.0 -
I bought some a few years ago from Superdrug. Couldn't get anything from Boots or any other chemist I tried. Perhaps Superdrug still stock it?

But the OP didn't state what she wanted to use it for
First thing that springs to my mind when someone mentions something like that is as a hand rub/disinfectant, which is what I use chlorhexidine for, but I realise now that isopropyl alcohol is more likely to be used in an industrial setting or as a cleaning agent
I need more :coffee: to wake up a bit! :rotfl:"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I certainly wouldn't be using Isopropyl Alcohol as a hand rub, and I don't think any one else should! I use it at arms length and usually outside.
Here's a typical bottle warning:
"WARNING! FLAMMABLE LIQUID AND VAPOR. HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED OR INHALED. CAUSES IRRITATION TO EYES AND RESPIRATORY TRACT. AFFECTS CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. MAY BE HARMFUL IF ABSORBED THROUGH SKIN. MAY CAUSE IRRITATION TO SKIN. "
IF using at work you'll find it is subject to COSHH (Control of Substance Hazardous to Health)0 -
According to my laptop handbook I can use this to clean my screen.
Never managed to get hold of any. Might just buy the wipes instead.
