Hi
First rule of dealing with DCas is not to ring them.
Do you have any idea what the debt is about? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Hi,
I think it has something to do with an old bank account I had, it has the same december 04 date as another default that has been settled
Why shouldnt i ring them??
Whats DCas?0 -
DCA - Debt Collection Agency.
These kind of companies tend to use bullying tactics whilst on the phone. Make sure all correspondence is in writing, that way you have a record of what has been said.
They may also obtain your telephone number if you call them. I had an outstanding balance with 1st Credit a while back. The unbelievable thing is it was only YESTERDAY that I deleted the number from my phone, and chucked away the last letter I received from them - sorry!Capital ONE :£2,208.00 (£50.00 pm) . e-mail them first, this will get an auto-response and create the start of a paper-trail. Try NOT to talk to them on the phone, or 147 the number before you dial. You DO NOT have to give them any more details than is neccessary to establish the reason for the entry.
You NEED it in writing.........dont just send ( or pay by card on the phone which is what they will push for ) the £38 to 'get them out of your hair'. they will take anyones money whether they are entitled or not.
and if its NOT your debt tell them that they are breaking the Law putting a false entry on your file!
:D stay wonky

I see what your saying about not calling them due to bulling tactics,

Thanks for advice:beer:0 -

1st Crediit and lowlife like them LOVE people to 'just pay the £38 or the £16' or whatever..........its pure profit! and if its NOT your debt dont expect them to be as quick removing the Default from your file as they will be to accept your money.
edit; cross-posted, sorry for rant

:rotfl: about rant
I have emailed them requesting documentary proof of the debt as a first step to concluding this matter
the info i gave them was name, address, debt amount and default dates. that should be enough for them to search, i havent given my number as yet.
as you said, I received an auto response email
Thanks again for advice

Grrr! Don't get me started on these people! They contacted me AFTER I was made bankrupt and were the rudest people I ever encountered when I made the mistake of phoning them. I sent them an extremely rude email, threatening them with legal action if they ever tried to contact me again and detailing in explicit four letter detail what I thought of their staff. Needless to say, I never heard from them again!
Don't make my mistakes, deal with them only via email or in writing and make it clear, in no uncertain terms that you know your rights and WILL NOT accept any threats from them. These people need to put firmly in their place. 0 -
Okay, I am going to make a converse suggestion ... As I noticed the 'why shouldn't anyone ring them?'. If anyone wants to know why they shouldn't ring a DCA, experience is everything, so if you want to know why ... phone them up, and see how they speak, how they treat you. That's not being unhelpful but ... I see so many people, when advised not to phone them, asking 'why?'.
Now to more serious things ... Before you will inevitably ask or not. A DCA is highly unlikely to take you to court for £38. And for that small amount it's probably including fees added by the DCA in question. Which they aren't - or so I was led to believe by a related consumer forum once - allowed to add in because it incurs further debt on the debtor. That is purely hypothetical but they charge outrageous amounts for a £5 debt for letters. That is just to preempt any questions in that direction. But, first, see what they come up with. They may go silent, because you have now called their bluff - which does scare them because they think people are silly enough just to pay; typical playground bully tactics 'oi, pay us or else!'. Standing firm is really the only way to go about these cowboys.Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.
