Creditor Calls

Any tips on what to say to the creditor when they do speak to me, am due in court on 3rd March, I am ignoring calls at home / mobile. But some are calling me at work which reception put through to me.

Today I said I am trying to sort something out over next few weeks and was told this is not good enough and must pay at least something, I have only missed the one payment from January, not paid anything to anyone and not planning on in February either. Gettings loads of mail too.

  • you should advise them that you are seeking some debt advice but this may still not stop them phoning you, i think the best thing to do is to speak to them and offer a token payment of just £1 (they must accept this) they will ask you then when will you be able to make another payment, tell them in two weeks or so. they should at least not bother you until after the 2 weeks, although when they do just use the same approach

i know it's not much but it's been working for me

    hope this helps
  • Thanks, I was told by RMA who have my MBNA debt that they would not accept any payment less than minimum
  • RMA are a nightmare. They phoned me every day regarding my MBNA account and clearly never read previous notes. Their policy is to phone you every day apart from Sunday I warn you. Best advice I can give you is first time they try each day answer the call and refuse security. They won't try again that day then where as if you ignore them I found they keep trying.

Also if you do go through security and speak to them ask them to remove your work number and say you are not allowed personal calls - worked for me.

They phoned me every day for a month but finally handed the debt back to MBNA when they realised I was a 'cant pay' not a 'won't pay'. Good luck, they really do employ monkeys there!!!

    Completemess xx

ps: The MBNA staff that are phoning me now are at least polite and have a brain xx
I cant change the past, but the future is mine to play with!

It is against OFt Guidelines for them to phone you at work, unless you have specifically requested them to do so. Go over to the DFW forum and search for OFT Guideleines then write and demand that RMA remove all your phone numbers from their records.

This is one of the most difficult times, just before going BR, and contributes to the stress. But it wont be long before all the calls will stop once you have been to court and made BR. I would not answer the phone or if you do, refuse to go through security. As for being contacted at work, explain to your reception that you are in dispute with your creditor and a) ask that they do not put them through to you and b) make sure your number is not given out. They do not have to know all the details, only that you are in dispute with them. You could of course send a letter requesting that the telephone harrassment stops. plenty of templates available. If it was me, I would just switch off the phone, you only have a month or so to go and what you do not know, does not hurt/stress you.
