Boots changing T&C's without telling anybody!

Options
Hi All
Well, I am a little annoyed with Boots today....
Went in armed with money off voucher from Change One Thing brochure - first of all found out that the Daniele Ryman range was now in clearance. Then when I took the £5 item to the counter (with £5 voucher, thus making a freebie) was told that they weren't accepting the voucher, and they would have to charge the full price to take the voucher off (keeping the item at £5).
I was told it was because (believe it or not) they had found that the vouchers were too popular, so they had decided to do this. This also meant they were stopping the use in conjunction with a BOGOF deal.
Even when I pointed out that their T&C's on the back made absolutely no reference to their being a minimum spend the general reaction was - tough.
I got the same response when i mentioned trading standards to them.
I am now planning to send them a firmly worded letter to complain.
Has anyone else had the same irritating experience? And is it just me, or does anyone else think that when you issue such vouchers, you have to expect people to use them! If wanted, I will happily post the central complaints address onto the board!

My husband got really peed off with Boots over their handling of these offers in the change one thing booklets.
So what did he do - contacted watch dog over the way they removed the products, would not let some use these vouchers and as you stated changing t&c.
We wil have to wait and see what happens.

i too was stopped from using some vouchers - there was some aromatherapy items in clearance and they wouldnt let me use them against the vouchers,......not fair!!!
  • Complain loudly.

Ask to speak to the manager. Explain that you are complying with the terms and conditions on the voucher.

If the shop is busy, and you are blocking the only till being staffed, then even better. It may seem to be unbritish, but make a fuss. The manager/supervisor will probably decide that the disruption that you are causing to sales is greater than the loss they will make letting you use the voucher.

If they are still not playing ball, ask them to phone head office, or if you have a mobile with you, phone customer services yourself. Speak in a loud voice to make sure that the other (potential) customers in the queue can hear your complaint.

Remember to keep it polite. Do not give them any excuse to get security to remove you.

One more thing - you could always be a bit hard ot hearing and make them speak loudly to you as well. Just to get the full effect :)

  • Hi all
Nice to see that I've got some people reading this.... I did incidentally start to complain loudly (I am informed by my friends that I am unable to whisper!) It seemed to me that I certainly wasn't the first to kick up a stink, and they were just riding it out for one more day until the offer was expired.
On an amusing note, went in to buy some sarnies for a work meeting, and got another money off voucher.... he he he.... hopefully this one won't have too many people choosing to use it, eh?
  • I had a battleaxe serve me at the till. I wanted to use two vouchers against two seperate offers and she said....hang on a minute I have to check with the manager. She came back 10 minutes later and said you are only allowed to take 1 leaflet.....I said that was ridiculous as not everyone was going to be buying these products before the clost of play. She didn't care so I told her to keep it!
