CIFAS Marker on Experian

3 months ago I completed payments on my Lloyds Tsb personal loan. Never missed a payment and banked with them for 20 years. Just before Christmas I decided to apply through my online banking for a loan of £20k for the purchase of a car. I was duly accepted on the spot for my loan and had until 5th Jan to accept the offer formally. After Christmas and after a flogging from the wife I put on my sensible head and decided that I should invest in the house instead and replace the double glazing. By this time my offer had expired so tonight I applied for a £10k loan instaed over the same repayment period (but this time stated home improvement) and was subsequently refused as I didnt meet their lending criteria. I noted through my Experian account that no footprint of a search had been left on my account when offered the loan, nor has it this evening. The only thing that has changed are 2 entries under CIFAS as follows.
Case 1
Product Type:Mail OrderType of Case:False Identity Fraud - Use of a false name with an address.Reason for Entry:Refer to CIFAS member
Case 2
Product Type:Mail OrderType of Case:Victim of Impersonation - Use, by another person, of this name and/or addressReason for Entry:Refer to CIFAS member
Over Christmas it was found that some scrote had used my details to open a littlewoods account however that has now been sorted out.
Is this just a coincidence or has this CIFAS marker put a bit of a spanner in the works.
Is it worth a trip to my bank for a chat?

The presence of the CIFAS marker won't have caused you to be declined, it is quite clear that you have been impersonated from those CIFAS markers.
If you were declined instantly then you have probably failed their credit score or existing policy rules - it could be anything really. If you had got past point then you would have been referred for a manual review, most likely to a fraud advisor (who would have read the CIFAS information and noted the impersonation).0 -
I think it is worth a phone call to your bank - I am wondering if they are including the accepted but not discounted loan of £20k in their underwriting?
This would mean an extra 10k would take you up to 30k lending unsecured which they would not be prepared to do.0 -
Thanks for the replies so far guys. I went into my local branch and had a chat with the branch manager. he went through all the details and couldnt understand either why this might have happened. He tried to put it through himself and was also rejected. He then gave them a call and they eventually put it through. The manager said that if there was anything really blocking it on my credit file then they wouldnt have overturned their decision at any cost. Seems like that I have my salary going into my current account and all the bills are paid from there; but I have another income that is paid into a deposit account of mine. He argued that it wasnt my fault that I was credit scored on just my current account and they should take into account the money going into my Lloyds deposit account. They obviously did!0
