Hi Im new to all this and have been looking around the forum but cant seem to find a direct answer to my question.
A company called robinson way have been calling me nearly every day for the past 2 months demanding I give them my address and date of birth ect.
I refuse every time as they will not tell me what they are calling about because of "data protection" to which I reply well I can not give you my details beacause of data protection and end the call. I found out they are a debt recovery company but I dont believe I have any debts. I paid of everything that I did owe nearly 2 years ago. What should I do? Should I tell them my details and see what they want?

I would definitely not give them any details and also check your credit report to see that it is clear as you think it is.
We had something similar a few years ago before I knew about MSE. A company (Paragon Finance) was calling and calling my other half but even when he did give them details (know better now lol) they wouldn't tell him how much he owed or where it was from.
In the end they put it in writing..... over £14k!:eek:But still no idea where it came from.
They also lied and said we had spoken to their representative who had visited us at home.... that home being a house we hadn't lived in for over a year.
I checked my other halfs credit rating and it was totally clear just as we thought.... but Paragon had run a credit check on him a few weeks before.
In the end he went to CAB who directed him to a solictor with whom he had a meeting that cost £30, they wrote a letter to this company and it was all dropped.
I'm sure there are better ways of dealing with it now I am on here but do a credit check first, I'm sure there are some links for free or cheap ones somewhere.0 -
I did a credit search last week which was clear apart from a default on my credit card but the card has a zero balance so I don't owe anyone anything. I sent them a letter last week to ask them to stop calling me but they obviously have not obliged. how do i stop them calling I don't really want to spend £30 on a solicitor.0

I wish I could remember the letter that my other half to write.
If you write to them don't sign anything btw, just in case.
Hopefully someone will be along who knows the letter template to use.
Here you go I found it!.....
http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/debt_advice.php#6
Scroll to the bottom and pick the letter 'To complain to debt collecting agencies who are persuing you for debts you do not own'.
Obviously it is a template so you need to change the relevant bit.0 -

Just read this on Robinson Way's website:
"Robinson Way is a founder member of the Credit Services Association. Members of the CSA adhere to a strict Code of Practice assuring quality and professionalism in the collection services we undertake."
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.

Dear Sir/Madam
Account no: xxxxxxxx
You have contacted me regarding the account with the above reference number, which you claim is owed by myself.
I would point out that I have no knowledge of any such debt being owed to (insert company name).
I am familiar with the Office of Fair Trading Debt Collection Guidance which states that it unfair to send demands for payment to an individual when it is uncertain that they are the debtor in question.
I would also point out that the OFT say under the Guidance that it is unfair to pursue third parties for payment when they are not liable.
In not ceasing collection activity whilst investigating a reasonably queried or disputed debt you are using deceptive/and or unfair methods.
Furthermore ignoring and/or disregarding claims that debts have been settled or are disputed and continuing to make unjustified demands for payment amounts to physical/psychological harassment.
I would ask that no further contact be made concerning the above account unless you can provide evidence as to my liability for the debt in question.
I await your written confirmation that this matter is now closed.
Otherwise I will have no option but to make a complaint to the trading standards department and consider informing the OFT of your actions.
I look forward to your reply.
Yours faithfully
