mood supplements-anyone heard of gaba or similar?

apparently gaba has been discontinues here now? is there an equivalent, not 5tp as this is serotonin i think, also i heard that even with gaba you have to take the 'binding' agent such as valerian, if anyone knows anything about this id be really interested, but i know to most people this is like talking swahili, sorry!

GABA is a naturally occuring chemical transmitter in the brain, as is serotonin (5HT). GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter (promoting sleep, sedation) whilst serotonin is the opposite. Herbalists claim that Valerenic Acid (sold as Valerian) blocks the breakdown of GABA and so promotes sleep.

thanks but i knew that already, should have been more specific, is there a gaba supplement or equivalent (not serotonin ) and is there anyother 'binding' agent that isnt valerian-tried that and it deosnt work, besides i dont want to get sleepy i want an anti anxiety effect. benzodiazepines act on gaba and stop the reuptake so im wondering if theres a herbal equivalent. thanks.

The production and sale of GABA (gamma amino-butyric acid) supplements was officially banned in the UK by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in 2003. It is also banned in the USA.

The metabolic pathway of GABA within the body involves the production of another chemical that releases Growth Hormone. GABA was thus being abused by bodybuilders who believed that the higher available levels of GABA would lead to higher levels of Growth Hormone and thus lead to greater muscle mass.

Benzodiazpines are a class of chemicals that act at specific sites on the GABA receptor. The binding site is highly specific for benzodiapines which is why no 'herbal equivalent' will ever act as effectively.
