Council Tax

Guys,
Unsure if this is the right forum but i need some advice.
A company called Rossendales have asked us for our wage slips and bank statements to collect a debt which occured in 2006 for non payment of council tax.
The outstanding amount is around £500. We have afford to make regular payments of £50 per month until the debt is settled.
Can they ask for such personal details? We have made a complete list of our incomings and outgoings. Surely this would be enough.
Thanxs

As far as I am aware, the financial information you have already given them is sufficient.
I was also asked by a DCA for my bank statement and wage slips and I refused - they stopped asking after I'd paid 3 regular payments!0 -
Council tax is a priority debt. That means that if you have other debt this is more important.

Oooh, very naughty, but typical! No, you are not in anyway shape or form obliged to send a DCA/creditor wage slips, bank statements. They know this perfectly well but will try it on regardless. Only a court can request those details from you and by a judge.A company called Rossendales have asked us for our wage slips and bank statements to collect a debt which occured in 2006 for non payment of council tax.
As said above, they have thoroughly sufficient documentation to reach a conclusion. What would happen is potentially this is if you gave them your wage slips ... they'd have your employers name - start phoning them up, causing you a lot of hassle in so many ways - also have your tax and national insurance number. That is a big NO to all that. Bank slips ... they aren't looking for what you have incoming, just where they can tell you to cut down on. Say £100 a week on food. They'd argue that was unreasonable, and demand more money from you. This is what happens.
If you can, I'd get one drawn up through CCCS, as companies tend to behave when they see a CCCS reference number.
Let's face it, CAB, CCCS doesn't ask you to prove your income does it? Just a tip.
Edit, I see you've already given them a financial statement eg I/O form. I'll go away now.Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

Cheers guys for your help.

Do you know what legislation this comes under in terms of not providing these details (wage slips, bank statements etc)? Data protection act possibly?0
