  • Thanks for all the words of advice everyone.

I went into my local LearnDirect centre today and they said they can offer me the ECDL free of charge so long as I pass numeracy and literacy tests -I'm booked in for tomorrow.
Seems pretty unnecessary as I have GCSEs, A Levels and an English degree but it'll be worth it to get an extra IT qualification on my CV for free!

Does anyone know where I could get intensive tuition and take the 7 module exams in about a week or two? I'm quite good with computers and software applications but not MS Office trained.

I'm trying to get a job in the public sector and nearly every vacancy is listing the ECDL as not essential but "desirable".

You could borrow ECDL-specific learning material from your local library. They may also be a test centre - or could direct you to one.
You can also visit the ECDL website to locate a centre.

Thanks LV. I considered home learning but there are just too many distractions in my household and I need to get away and study.

I noticed that some libraries conduct the tests too but they seem to limit you to a couple of modules at a time maybe twice a month. This way it would take at least a couple of months. :(
