My kids love cheese and grain scones. I've also made just with plain value flour (rather than grain flour), and that's fine.
8oz (grain) flour
1tbsp Baking Powder
pinch salt
2oz butter
3oz red cheese (any will do, preferably mature)
quarter pint milk
sesame / poppy seeds etc
Put flour, BP and salt into a bowl and mix, then rub in butter until resembles breadcrumbs. I sometimes ad a few pinches of dry mustard - enhances the cheese flavour.
Stir in cheese. Add enough milk to mix togerther to form a dough. Roll out to approx half inch thick, cut into 2 inch rounds (or whatever size you prefer), brush with milk and sprinkle with seeds (if using).
