Self assessment - contract work?

Hi
Scared witless by tax forms so have delayed and delayed and delayed filling in!

Please help me someone! I did some contract work between Jan 08 and July 08 at a set rate per week. I also received Child tax credit to help with childcare fees. Not claiming any expenses or anything as that was part of the weekly rate. So... do i still fill in all parts of the form??? Lots of it don't seem to be relevant, e..g profit and loss, expenses etc

thanks for any replies and well done to everyone who did it ages ago!

Also, what if i don't have all info to hand? e.g. have some Bradford and bingley shares whichpaid out dividends, but i didn't keep the paperwork as did no know i would need it for tax purposes... so what do i do about things like that?? and really confused about what to put in the interest boxes. Does this include just my business account or all personal accounts - have 2 current accounts.

panic, panic!

I would enter the contract money for Jan - Mar 08 under the 'other untaxed income' section of your return.
You can obtain details of the dividend received from B&B - meanwhile enter an estimate - does it not show on your bank statements?

  • thanks fengirl for the quick reply!

I only did the contract work, nothing else for that time, so that is going under self employed income.
Just going through paperwork to see what i still have - tend to shred some stuff after 6 months, which i know is really bad now!! this is my first SA form, so have only just realised they needed all my personal banking info - thought i just neeed the business bank account stuff.

    Shame on me i know.....

No, do NOT include it under self employment. See my original reply.
