London - Gyms - Zone 1
Options
Hi All,
MY (very poor) partner is looking for a cheap gym in London, pref zone 1, or 2 (we live in New Cross).
Does anyone know of any godo deals at the moment?
A couple membership deal would be good too.
We are looking for a proper gym, lots of heavy weights! Stuff like a pool or steam room are very secondary (although nice).
Thanks for your help.
Andy

Hi Andy,
I hope I'm not too late with this for you, but Soho Gyms have a couple of locations in Borough and Waterloo. I haven't tried them myself, but I've heard good things, and there's no joining fees.
Have a look at www.sohogyms.com and you can get a free 3-day trial through www.afterworkdeals.com.

As you are in New Cross, have you looked into the facilities at Goldsmith's? I know they have a gym that is open to the public (at the big main building on New Cross Road) and being a university I'd guess it would be cheaper than a commercial chain - certainly from their website it would seem to be very reasonably priced indeed (though I bet the very cheap £16.50 a month rate quoted on the site is probably only available to their students and staff).
Also try Peckham Pulse leisure centre which is pretty good as council-run facilities go.
Another one I have heard is good as a basic no-frills "proper gym" is the Columbo Centre off Blackfriars Road. But obviously that's a lot less local to you than Goldsmith's.Operation Get in Shape

There's a huge YMCA near New Oxford St/Tottenham Court Rd - they often do good deals.
I have to say I'm a fan of local authority facilites as well. You usually get a deal that gets you into all the facilities in that borough. I get a great deal on swimming in Lewisham that saves me £400 a year.Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...0
