I have a very small pension about to mature. I believe I can find somewhere else to put the money and they may pay out more. Can anyone advice me on this, please....

Its called open market option (or transfer with immediate commencement depending on the type of transfer used). Any IFA can do this for you. no point doing it yourself as you save nothing and just limit the number of companies you can select as most dont transact direct with the public.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
