We are in so much debt it is scary and shocking.
we were always in a little bit of debt but last march my job wasnt good and kept forgetting to pay wages in the end they just said it was closing down in the summer well i was already on maternity leave so i decided to not go back and i would stay at home for the first year before going back to work, everything was fine at first then things got bad.
we now have £1300 pm coming in and around £1800 going out, we have no more credit left so its impossible to pay, our council tax hasnt been paid since nov and we know that is a priority but we havent got no money, our mortgage got into arrears so we now have to pay a higher amount instead of £850pm its now £1000 pm! it comes out tommorow and we cancelled all direct debits 2 weeks ago to make sure nothing came out and we checked our bank account online and theres only £300 in there so we rang the mortgage company who said they will try again on the 15th.
in the meantime we got in arrears with our car finance and owe £400 and they contacted a debt collection agency and we made an arrangement of paying £100 tommorow and £300 in 2 weeks time but paying that tommorow is going to leave us with no money for other bills and we have a baby who needs milk and nappies.
i feel so sick i think we are past help, nobody seems to have got into that much debt in here.
i have been looking for a job and i got a letter for a job interview this friday and when we get a second income come in it will be a lot better but can we survive until then?

Poppy, I know it's easier said than done but don't panic! Keep a focused mind and we will help you get through this! :grouphug:
OK, your mortgage payment is your priority! If you only pay one thing each month make sure it is this one! Do you have any other secured debt?
The rest (unsecured ones) don't matter (well they do but not right now) for now!
Can you post a SOA so we can see what position you are in? Have a look here for a guide!
When do you get paid next? And are you receiving all the benfits you are entitled to?0 -
Poppy, are you dealing with the debts on your own or are you with a debt help organisation? If not, please think about getting in touch with one hon as they will prioritise your debts. Your mortgage and council tax are priority and so is food and nappies. Any left over can go towards your debt. Sorry if I've missed your original post and if you've already done a SOA. If you have done it already will you provide a link to it for me?Mortgage-free wannabe!0

ok thanks, ill sort out my SOA and let you know
yes i think im entitled to all my benefits £134 pm ctc and £68 pm family allowance. my partner gets paid every friday.
yes i am dealing with this on my own not through a debt compancy such as cccs, because i have agreements with credit cards already (between around £50 and 60) i didnt know if going through cccs would make it any better, please let me know if im wrong.
yes, the mortgage is the only secured loan we have
ill get back with the SOA, im so surprised at how friendly people are on here, it makes me feel less lonley already. thank you0 -
In my personal opinion going with a free debt help organisation is better than going it alone as they will deal with stuff for you, ie they will deal with all creditor queries etc. In your case where you are struggling with priority debts, this would not happen as they would make sure you paid those first and would even give you a budget for sundries, emergencies etc. Stuff you wouldn't think of budgeting for. I really think you would be better off speaking to one of them. Please consider it as it sounds really rough for you at the moment.xxMortgage-free wannabe!0

Right you need to double check this! Make sure you are getting what you are entitled to! I'll try and find the link for you!yes i am dealing with this on my own not through a debt compancy such as cccs, because i have agreements with credit cards already (between around £50 and 60) i didnt know if going through cccs would make it any better, please let me know if im wrong.
OK, forget your arrangement with them! Start paying them all £1 each as a token payment! They will phone you to ask you whats going on! Just tell them you are talking to CCCS or Payplan and they will be contacted in due course! You have nothing to fear from these leaches!yes, the mortgage is the only secured loan we have
Good, then this and council tax are your main concerns! When do you go back to the normal mortgage payment?
Definately ring the CCCS or Payplan! The credit companies seem to co-operate with them! Have your CC companies stopped all interest and charges? I think they do this with CCCS and Payplan!
You also won't have to deal with all the phone calls, letters etc, they will do this for you!
The contact details are at the bottom of the link I sent you above!0 -
Hi there Poppy
At the moment I don't think it's the amount of debt you have that is the problem (although I don't know how much that is). You don't have any cash flow. Post on here as much as you can tonight re: incomings and outgoings so we can get a brief picture - you can fine tune and add to your SOE later. The thing that strikes me immediatley is that you have (understandably) overpromised the amounts you can pay back to your mortgage company and the debt collection agency. If you have the courage (perhaps you will after being on here and contacting one of the free debt help charties linked above), call them back before the payments are due to go out and renegotiate. Your mortgage is of course your priority debt but even that you can't pay what you can't afford at this very moment. Companies don't like to reposses and generally happens only after a long period of time and when previous agreements have been broken many times. You need to notify your creditors in a more formal way (with a printed SOA) that you can't afford the current repayments and make reasonable offers - that's what this board can help you with (and someone like Payplan).£16,500 in debt.

...and ruyareece. The thing is, in the next few days, to get really clued up on what can and can't be demanded of you and it will give you confidence and you will start to sleep at night and put things into perspective (or depends on baby I suppose!)£16,500 in debt.
