Gas & Electric Arrears

Not neccesarily saying this as advice but more of an example of what I have done in the past. We were with Powergen and our bills were estimated and when we gave a reading we had about a combined £700 bill which we couldn't afford. Our fault, not the company's but we never thought that they would've underestimated the bill by that much. We just swapped suppliers straightaway and then agreed a set monthly amount with Powergen to pay off just the arrears.

Electric meters are great if you find that you can never find the money to pay the bill but they cost more per unit than being on a contract. I would never recommend this to anyone but for some people it is the only way to go, each to their own thats what I say.

Hope that you get it all sorted.

Hi, how come you are paying £55 each month car insurance when it's dead?

Also - would you be eligible for free wall and roof insulation which would cut your heating bills down!

I bought a cheap roll of insulating stuff and wrapped all the heating pipes, immersion heater and behind all radiators and it's made a big difference to the heat of the radiators!

Hiya, we were in arrears with our gas and electric aswell - similar amount to you.

They sent out someone to fit the pre payment metre but were told the day before that you don't HAVE to have one fitted - so we politley sent the chap away. Then my OH spent about an hour on the phone to EON, being passed from one department to the next and eventually we agreed that we would over pay each month £17 on both Gas and Electric. So that's what we do, you're not allowed to pay by direct debit by this method, but I'm not sure why!

So each month we pay at least £17 over (usualy a bit more), in addition to that we only put the water to heat up when we need it, we have thick curtains, keep doors closed etc and do what we can to keep the costs down!

    hope that helps

It hasn't long died - its an imobliser problem but car tax due end of month so have to SWORN it and put it in a garage until we decide what to do with it

I've been looking into installation today. Put cling film over the windows last night - who knows if it will work
  • I have an old old old old boiler, you have to heat the water for the heating even if you don't want hot water!

I enquired about that - they said I'd have to pay at least half of each bill
