CV Writing

Is there any value in getting a professionally written cv or are templates the way to go. Any site recommendations or successes for either ?

  • best do it yourself, and save money / control your info.

had mine assessed at the joblub- a short sumamry (can do this / want to do this etc) first, then work back from latest job, bullet points are good, with main resposonibilities / achievements. best do qualifications at the end, unless it suits the job you are going for..

i was told whoever gets to read/choose cv's for interview gets hooked or bored within the first 1/2 page, however good you may be!

monster.co.uk has free templates. There usually are enough CV's on the web to find one for your job type that you like and can mimic.
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

What you'll find is that as you submit these to an agency, they'll re-write them anyway.

There are plenty of ideas from the net or you could ask an agency for advice.

Remember not to waffle on, It should be no more than 3 pages, in black writing, professional with a good layout.

Explain the main points, ie you studied at blah, between blah dates and achieved blah :-)
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T
  • what makes me think one of the many work from home jobs would be reviewing/rewriting cv's, for a fraction of what the jobhunter pays!
