In the 6th Feb addition of Woman's Own magazine there is an article on debt advice so I thought I would share it with you:
The average household debt in the UK is about £7,749 - a 45% increase since 2000. One in three of us are hiding debt problems from our partners.
You should plan a weekly budget and stick to it.
Don't ignore the debt.
Don't deal with debt on your own. Confide with your partner, family and friends.
Talk to the organisations you owe money to. Let them know your having problems. Work out the priority debts such as mortgage and utility bills and arrnage to pay these off at a faster rate than the rest.
Work out how you much you can easily afford to pay back. Check if your entitled to extra benefits or tax credits. Shop around for cheaper providers.
Get expert help.
These are not necessarily views of my own but there are some pretty basic tips there from them.

I think the problem with these advice columns is that they dont deal with the cause of why there is huge debt in the first place, also such general advice is not always right for each person
But, if it get s people interested and they dig deaper then it isnt a bad thing0 -
I dream of a household debt of £7k!!!! A household debt of £7k is my goal!!!
Seriously, they might seem elementary to us but hopefully articles like this will get people thinking about their debts and how to tackle them. Maybe finding out that they have debts above the national average will be the wake up call some folk need to get it moving.Debt Oct 2005: £32,692.94
Current debt: £14,000.00
Debt free date: June 20080 -

A lot of magazines who touch on the issue of debt just dont have a clue!! They skirt around it, and make light of it, but it is such an important subjebt it should be approached in a more serious way!!!!
Bought this months essentials magazine (the one I was in) and I am pleased to see that there was a link to this website!! Hoorah!!

Do you know,I work in a school and we have days off timetable to look at things like finance. A lot of the other teachers complain about it but I think it's really good because it explains things to the kids in language they understand.0
