Money back from debt collectors

I have been referred to a debt collector for money I think i shouldn't have to pay. I am currently disputing it. The debt is with a phone company. I am considering complaining to otello (the communications watchdog) but by the look of things it would take several months. If am forced to concede and pay the debt to stop it going to court would I be able to get my money back if otello agreed that I shouldn't have to pay it.
Any advice or experience of this especially with otello would be very appreciatted - i'm getting pretty fed up because this saga has been going on now since last summer.
Thanks

write to both the phone company and the collection agency telling them you dispute, and dont acknowledge the debt. Explain why you dispute it. they can't continue recovery action whilst you dispute and don't acknowledge the debt.0

Well its back with 'Homecall' (NEVER USE THIS COMPANY) now so they're gonna get back to me. Not confident because its like talking to a brick wall. Thanks for your help anyway. Fingers crossed.0

What are the circumstances of the debt? First step is usually to write to them asking them to prove the debt. If you don't owe it, don't pay it.
