Nivea/FourFourTwo promotion not honoured

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I wasn't sure where to put it so I went for here as this was where the zavvi gift voucher thread was.
Before christmas, I bought my Dad one of the Nivea gift sets that included a voucher for three free issues of FourFourTwo magazine (via TheMagazineShop.com website). A few days ago he tried to sign up for it, but the website directed him to call a subscription number (you had to sign up for direct debit). When he spoke to them, they told him that 'the offer had been withdrawn due to take-up'.
My Dad was going to give up, but I'm not happy with their response. There was no mention, either on the voucher that came in the set or displayed in store at the time of purchase of any conditions where the offer might be withdrawn. In fact it wasn't even sold as 'gift set with offer'- it was advertised as having three free issues of the magazine with it, no subject to availability or anything like that. What's even more annoying is the banner across the top of TheMagazineShop website offering 'three issues of FourFourTwofor a pound'. Now I could just sign up to that, but given that there isn't a country-wide shortage of copies of FourFourTwo
I think that they should be honouring the offer. I suspect that as it was just a code to enter into the website, a lot of people found it on the internet and signed up, but that's not my fault.
I'm going to call them myself tomorrow. Does anyone have advice?

Sorry I can't advise- am sure someone will be along some time to advise!
Have you made a formal complaint? in writing? can help sometimes, or repeatedly called up to moan? know its a bit basic, but its what I would do- if I wasn't able to get something I felt I was due, I would want everyone else (eg the company) to suffer my annoyance at this too! Even if it doesn't swing things your way (which it could if you carry on making a fuss) it can be great at fixing the immediate aggrivation caused by it.0 -
Call the free phone number which is normally on the side of the set. State only purchased gift set due to offer and if the offer is not available you want a refund on the gift set. Will probably be told to keep gift set and sent some coupons0

They may have small print which says subject to availability, or gives then coverage to with draw . . . I would check what paperwork you have with the original offer .0

Agreed, there is usually always a get out clause printed somewhere.
Is there anything at all that can be interpreted as a "get out"?We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0
