BR and Self employment

Having briefly spoken to OR on friday, they have told me that i must inform the firm i sub contract to that i am going BR so a fresh contract can be drawn up. When i do this I know they will not renew, as its a good get out clause due to current climate. My question is, Does anyone know whether i could start claiming benefits immediately or is there a time frame as it was self inflicted if you like.?
I dont wanna go on benefits if i can help it, but having used the entitled to calculator, i will only be £300 a month worse off, no incentive to work really is there!

first ive heard of that, what if you work for 100 companies, have you to tell all of them?
will the OR tell them? i doubt it
if your national insurance is upto date and you tell HMRC you have ceased trading i know JSA is available, but it seems harsh of the OR to put you out of business when other s/employed (me included) arent even asked who thier customers are!
what field do you work in?0 -

Its because i have a contarct with them and i lease all my tools, van off them. thats why i have to tell them. But to be honest mate, if i can get a job, i will be better off anyway!!0 -
Both OH and I are Self-employed trades people. However, OH had employed job last year HGV driving for 4 months before being laid off in November - turns out that OH staying self employed over last 10 years and never claiming benefits has stuffed chances of getting any help from job seekers allowance because not paid correct NI contributions to be eligible. Has paid class 2 but not enough "employed contributions" to qualify for JSA. Makes you wonder why you bother to keep yourself in self employment and off the benefits sometimes :mad:0
