Can't even get a Barclaycard Initial

I have no credit history and there is nothing bad on my credit files (I've checked them). I have a good wage, I'm on the electrol role, etc, etc and I've read the articles on here about improving your credit score and have done everything I can.

I applied for two decent credit cards a few months ago, but got turned down for them both. I assumed this was due to my lack of credit history. So I applied for a Barclayacrd Initial and today received a letter saying my application has been rejected

What else can I do?! I thought the Barlcaycard Initial was for people like me? I will give them a ring tonight, but before I have a few questions:

Do they tell you anything not in the letter and/or reconsider your application? Do they have to give you a reason? Is it better to write?

Please help!

Your best option - assuming Barclays aren't your bank - is to go to your bank.

It might not be the best credit card - but it will begin to build you a history.

If Barclaycard won't help when you call them, try Capital One or see if you can get a storecard somewhere.

As you say, it seems that it is your lack of credit history that is causing the problem.

Because applications are scored by computer, if the computer knows that people with no history are statistically more likely to be bad credit risks, it will dismiss your application without understanding the facts!

Smile :), it makes people wonder what you have been up to.
  • Thanks guys :) I'll wait a couple of months untill all these checks are off my credit file, then try my bank. If that fails I'll try Capital One.

    Thank you!

  • I had a fairly poor credit rating 3 years ago becauseI lost my job and missed a dew payments, I recently applied for the capital one rip off card and was declined butI appealed against it and was accepted so there are ways round this, just writet hem a letter and they will pass it to an administrator who will check your files and make a "human" judgement" not a computer judgement!
