Can I appeal against an asset valuation?

As many of you know, my pets (tarantulas and snake) are being valued by an auction house, as they are considered to be assets. I have been told by Invert experts, that I would be offered around £110 by a dealer for my spiders, but to buy them all in a pet shop, you could pay up to around £700-900. I don't know how the auction house is going to value them. I had to give them all the species, sexes and sizes, and they will get there own valuation. This was 2 weeks ago! I phoned today and spoke to my 'OR' who I have discovered is actually the Examiner, and he said they are still waiting for a valuation. I reckon this is because they are probably having trouble valuing them. I am getting 2 independant valuations for myself, doubt they will count for anything where 'OR' is concerned though!
What if the valuation comes back closer to the pet shop price and not the actual re-sale price of my collection? They already have a buyer for my spids
if we can't afford the 75% of the valuation cost to keep them.
Do I have the right to appeal against this valuation if I think it is unjust?

Suggest sending in your own valuations to your examiner with a covering letter. Suspect their agents are having trouble valuing them so they might be grateful.0

Also, bear in mind that there is the probability that they are trying it on. They do not expect you to fight back and just take it "lying down". I really do not think that they want to remove the spiders from you as it is going to cost them more for collection and transport etc, but do not expect you to know that. However....
Submit your valuations. Also submit your costs for keeping them, as this is also taken into consideration (its why £200 banger cars are taken when they are costing more to repair/run than an unemployed BR can afford).0 -
Hi Spidwoman, I can only second the advice of jcs1 and skylight.
Just wanted to wish you all the best with the examiner/OR and I hope we can hear some good news from you. Make sure you do appeal and submit your own valuations.
Take care
Donna

Yes, they cost about £2 a week to feed. He asked me that also. The snake is £1 a week to feed, and probably valued at around £80, even though he cost £65. He is my husbands, so really shouldn't be included in the same valuation.
I wonder what the minimum valuation is that they will bother asking us to pay anything towards?:T 434 of 2008 :j0 -
Thanks Donna

Hi Spidwoman - I am horrified that your pets are being classed as assets - I could understand if they were horses or something similar in sizethat are worth quite a lot of money but spiders & snakes ? I'm scared now coz I have 2 labradors who cost me £150 in food, insurance and medication each month - I'd rather go without food myself than lose them.

JWBF. Dont mention the dogs specifically. The OR will not ask for proof of breed etc. As long as costs are lowish (include food into housekeeping and less £20pm for insurance).
Spiderwoman made the small error of mentioning the spiders. Once the OR knows about it then they have to act upon it. But dogs are generally regarded as household pets.0 -
OMG I also have two dogs a westie and a golden retriever but didnt put them down as an asset, however, I did put on SOA dog food, vet bills etc not included in the household shopping bill!!!!
This is awful would be broken hearted if they took my dogs off me, they have helped to keep me sane!!0 -
I have two westies! They are family pets. Do I have to declare them?"What does not kill you makes you stronger"0
-
anyone with pets - do not mention them unless asked, and if asked, just say they are standard family pets, no special breed etc etc
It is highly unusual for an OR to be interested in a pet as an asset unless they are unusual pets or special breeds.
Fido and Tiddles are safe!
Although I really do feel for poor Spidwomans situation!
